Around the corner ran the killer, with every step growing closer to
you. What to do? He is about to slice you like a rabbit when he
gets close enough. You quickly fumble in your bag for your
weapon... The Nikon 990 mm tank destroyer. With this brilliant
beast, you can level a house, sure enough this would turn the man
about to murder you into something that your dog might eat for
dinner from his bowl. Slowly you pull it out, and begin to boot it
up, check your sites and if its just right, you might press the...
slit / slice / sclap ... the sounds of metal on flesh grow louder
as you fall to the ground. With a strong thud, the Nikon lands hard
on your torn torso... things are getting dim... BUT WAIT!!! ITS
SQUIDBALL!!! there he goes, rounding the corner... in a single
motion pulling somthing from his pocket... it's the Canon s100
glock 9! Thwap Thwap... shots emit from the canon bursting through
the killers knee, arm ... thwap shoulder, thwap thwap.. the canon
continues to rattle off shots in the now hole filled body of the
killer. Squid slowly approaches you, nodding his head at the Nikon
and your sliced up body propped up on it. thwap thwap thwap, the
last thing you see is the s100 capturing the last precious moment
of your short life...

lots of words, but no images?

lets see some of the work you guys are producing with your big
expensive cameras...
I'm not sure that I would typlify the $900 CoolPix as expensive,
nor the $500 Elph as inexpensive. However, you asked for pictures
so here are a few I've done in the past year. Some, in theory,
could have been done with another digital camera, such as the Elph,
but others could only have been done with the CoolPix. That said, I
agree with you that this is all about pictures and not one brand or
model of camera being above or below another.

yes, some nice shots. Seems like there is lots of noise in most shots, although the rez on the pics you posted is poor, and probably highly compressed. I still, honestly do not think that they are of better quality than those I took with my s100.

keep up the good werk!

-squid
Did you happen to take a look at some of the pics from the 990 that
I got there squid?

Read previous post for URL.

This was weird but I think I have a nikon comparison to one of your pix.
This was taken with a Nikon 800. It's small though.

looks like we got another Cybercat ladies and gentle man.

I admit the pics look nice from your s100 and all and yes about 95%
of the people here dont have anything interesting to photograph.

take a look at the pics from the Nikon CP 990.

Might not be as over staturated as your pics but I go for color

the Sony DSC-S70.

Hey Dennis,

Nice shots. If you do alot of building shots or need perspective correction, you should check out a proggy called Picture Window Pro. Here's an example of what you can do with it:

===== Right ON, dewardh! =====

The Squid is a good framer of composition, no doubt. He is happy withhis little beast. But "thwap-thwap-thwap" to zap a murderer?????? Does he feel chased by those who would harm him? Does he have something to prove? Obviously.

Squidball - take pictures. You're good! Have a life and let us have one too.

========================
your big expensive cameras
Big, yes . . . relative to the S100 anyway. Of course one gets a
lot in return . . . greater resolution, excellent macro, available
accessory lenses, full manual control . . . it will take pictures
that the S100 can not. But there's no question that the S100 is a
marvel, and its tiny size encourages taking it to, and using it at,
places where the 990 usually wouldn't go, at least without
considerable hassle. Everyone here will acknowledge that sometimes
convenience trumps quality . . . don't yourself make the mistake of
not realizing that sometimes quality trumps convenience.

Expensive? The 990 costs maybe $150 more than the S100 . . .
hardly an overwhelming difference, considering. Granted you can
spend a lot more on 990 accessories, but that only accentuates the
basic difference . . . you can do a lot more with a 990, too.

I'd love to have both . . . I've got a 990 because of the greater
range and versitility. because of all the things it can do.

I'd have to second what David said in another post . . . you have a
good eye for composition and can "see" an interesting shot. It's a
shame you're not shooting with a higher resolution camera, but
several of your S100 shots are quite nice. Spend your energy
taking pictures . . . you don't get any points for juvenile "my
camera is better than your camera" posturing . . . especially since
nobody is arguing that the S100 isn't a nice little box.

You must admit, the 6th street mall makes a perfect subject!

No, I'm not "cybercat #2" and I didnt find my posting to be immature. It was just an example of how a cheaper, bashed camera can still take good pics.

sorry if I offended anyone, or roused anger from members of this forum.

Well, with the images posted here, Squidball's is the clear winner. But such a comparison doesn't even come close to being fair. Image compression, processing, and most importantly, photographic technique are all variables which must be controlled in order to provide data for meaningful comparison . . . sorry Squid-baby, you can't used "fuzzy data" to prove your point . . .
