It's probably better than a new one, it's gone through a more
rigorous testing. From what I am seeing these days, buying new is
a real cr*p shoot, the quality of manufacturing isn't what it used
to be. The downside is the shorter warranty.

I took a look at your pics, Excellent !
What are you using ?
Bob
stephen,Cameta Camera out of Amityville, NY sells a lot of Nikon
Reconditioned equipment via their Ebay auction site. I purchased a
couple of lenses from them and could not tell them from new. They
have had several 4500s over the last few weeks. The good part of
buying through Cameta is you get the Nikon 90 day warranty plus a
one year Cameta warranty. The downside is that people tend to bid
them up to high levels. Whereas Nikon gets $370 for a recon 4500
with a 90 day warranty, the same thing through Cameta usually gets
bid up to $450-470.
I ordered an 885 last week from them, it'll be here Monday. I'll let you know how it goes.Any opinions on buying a 'reconditioned' Coolpix thru the Nikon Mall ?

I wanted a cheap point and shoot to carry when I don't want to lug the D100 with me, plus I'm off to Hawaii in October and the wife will use the 885. I'll fix the red in Photoshop if needed.auroraproject ,I ordered an 885 last week from them, it'll be here Monday. I'll

So your the one !
I was looking at them ( $189 ) but they are now out of stock.
Definitly let me know how it goes.
Also why the 885 ( price ? ) are you not concerned about the
RED problem that everyone talks of ?
Thanks, Bob
--So the 885 arrived today, in 1 piece. Inside the box was the camera
body, lens cap, wrist strap, 16mb compact flash card, battery &
charger, usb cable, video cable, owners manuals, warranty card, and
software. It was all well packed and in great condition. Looking at
my 885, I can hardly tell it was ever used, after charging the
battery I took a few quick snaps of my D100. While I have not had
much time with it yet, the results seem decent so far. Something
I'm unsure of though, it makes a clicking-ticking noise while
focusing, is this normal? The focus works fine, so I'm probably
worrying about nothing. If you have any questions let me know, I'm
happy with my purchase at this point (as long as it doesn't break
in a week!). Here's a pic from my 885:

Turns out it's normal. I do have it set on continuous af, just a little weird to hear a camera making those noises, I'll get used to it. Thanks. On my 880, I had the same noise. It turned out to be "continuous
AF". Look under "Auto Focus Mode" and there are two choices:
Continuous AF or Single AF". If you choose Single AF, the focus is
turned only when you have press the shutter-release button halfway.
Hope this is the answer.

As requested:I've read in many reviews that it's 'normal' ... (clicking)
as someone already stated it's the AF.
Could you take a pic containing 'Reds' in it, and post it 'as is'
without
any correction/touch-up.
I'm very curious to see what this is (the red problem) all about.
I have seen many 885 pics, but I'm unsure if they were
'color corrected' before being posted ...
Thanks, Bob
Thank You .....!How long is the battery supposed to last on these? I charged it
yesterday and took maybe 100 pics, now it's totally dead. I guess
they don't give you a new battery with a refurb camera, another $40
tomorrow!
Hmm guess the D100 spoiled me, I get 750-1000 pics per charge. Time to pick up a spare for the 885.Thank You .....!
As to the batteries, read the CP 3100 review (here)

you'll find the 885 there .
