A really angry Giant Forest Ant, Dinomyrmex gigas (formerly Camponotus gigas). You can see the head of another ant with its mandibles locking onto the left rear leg of this live ant. Selangor, Malaysia.

Which part of Selangor was these from specifically?
 
Very nice series, Kurt! The specimen in your last pic (female cave cricket) looks close to the Rhaphidophoridae orthoptera living in European cavities.
 
Another amazing set! I envy the variety of your subjects, your knowledge of where and how to find them, and your photographic skills -- Perfect combination!

Q: I notice a good % of your photos are shot at night, any particular reason why? Are more of these creatures active at night, or are they easier to approach at night?

Thank you, inkblot. These were all taken at night! Where I am, it is getting increasingly difficult to find macro/close up subjects during the day. Not sure why. It's much easier at night, and cooler too!
