The SB-400 flash can be adjusted manually through the camera menu (works fine).

The Metz 44 AF-1`and Metz 44 AF-2 have a only limited range of manual power options built in.

Anyone tried adjusting the power via the camera menu? Considering this for a D90 and D3300.

thanks

Peter

Hi.

I'm very sure I read somewhere, that the menu e2 on the D90 and the similar in the record menu on the D3300 only will accept the in-built flash or a Nikon flash without a built in menu.

Though - the D90 has commander mode for the pop-up flash, where you can set parameters for the slave.

If you set the pop-up i.e to "--" (only preflashes) and the Group A to "M", you are able to set compensation to what value you like, though I'm very certain, that the flash will not obey, if the value is a non-valid M-44 flash value. (Can't be sure never tried :-) )

Of course - this can not be done with the D3300.

thanks Birger. That makes sense, sadly.

I really like the Metz units. I will probably ever only shoot in TTL but it would be nice to have access to more potential adjust settings.
