The island of Tinos in the Greek Cyclades is known for its pigeon houses. They are scattered all over the island, some in ruins, others still 'inhabited'. Others again have been converted into chic holiday homes.

This will be the last bunch with the 100-400 for a while. I am finally getting over my fixation on this new lens and most of my birds have fledged and flown away. Wormy, you can now relax and I will not inflict you with any more birds for a while (maybe) :)

Eastern Phoebes. They flew away the day after this photo.

I originally thought these were Eastern Kingbirds, but was wrong.

Northern Cardinal that has a nest in my neighbor's Shrubbery

My nesting pair of bluebirds with nest box on my rear deck. Chicks flew away today.

A stray red bellied woodpecker.

Most of my 100-400 images so far have been in cloudy or deep shade at 1/50 - 1/80 sec handheld. Looking to graduate to more sunny conditions soon.

Did you try any with focus on the candle? Might have been an interesting OOF background.

Michael

Interesting that homes were built for pigeons. Were they for homing pigeons or just birds out in the wild?

Michael

You've got great variety of birds in your backyard.

Great images too.

I saw this figure sitting on the sidewalk drawing.

She had been there in front of a bank drawing. I was taking her photo when the police approached. He asked her what she was doing. She didn't say anything just kept up drawing. After asking her several times, he touched her and she jumped. She then pulled out her ear plugs and they started to talk. I walked away.

They had marked utilities along the side walk and she had filled several with different cartoons. I shot this one to see up close what they were about. Later I saw her walking uptown, and the art had stopped on the orange spot where the police had talked to her. We see something like this and never know what really went on. The policemen did this very well and was very polite but firm. She never heard him at first because of what she was listening to.

HMS Shoreham, docked at it's namesake Shoreham Harbour near Brighton, United Kingdom.

Stop it down, see 'em shine!

Took advantage of the lovely starbursts when stopping the Oly 45mm down to f/11.

I have posted several photos here of Chili-man here, and one of the advantages of getting to know some of the people who work on the street they tell you things. Once Popcorn man told me about a flash mob that was going to perform. This last Monday Chili-man told me that the local Fox News was going to interview him and I should come. While Chili-man was setting up his stand, they were going to interview me when this woman walked up holding her dog and they talked to her.

I really love my Panasonic GX7. Here I am standing right next to the woman with her dog. With the silent shutter she didn't know that until later when I showed her this photo. It was the best of several. These were shot using the 20mm lens.

I love it! :) A little bit of graffiti should be a constitutional right. Somehow that photo brought to mind the short Edie Brickell video, "Good Times" that was included on the Windows 95 operating system CD. That little video struck a cord with me.

Some companion shots to go with my post from Part 2.

It was much darker to the naked eye.

Hi Michael

These shots in low light are magnificent - nuanced textures, low noise. I see you shot these with your Sony FF. Can I please ask how close do you think you would have got with an M43 sensor? Not wanting to be disruptive here but I have been loosely observing your struggles wityh competing formats and I would really value your opinion

Regards

Paul

Thanks Paul.

I haven't tried many high ISO long exposure shots with M43. I think there would be more noise with M43, but I can't say by how much. I found long exposures at base ISO with M43 quite good when in camera noise reduction was used. There would be hot pixels when dark frame was not used.

With my Sony I can shoot long exposures up to 30 seconds and not bother with dark frame noise reduction. That probably doesn't work with exposures measured in minutes, but I haven't done any exposures that long. I've seen comments in the Sony forum complaining about noise on very long exposures without using dark frame.

The snake is my favorite. I was taught (by my father) to appreciate them and other creatures beginning around age 3. Passed it on to my three girls.

I have eaten a few. They are not very tasty, but are good food if you need them.
