I finally just got around to updating my Olympus OM-D E-M1 firmware from 3.0 to 4.1. The update deleted all my customized settings, so I have been going through and trying to configure everything the way I had it before the update. Now, after reconfiguring, I'm noticing a strange icon on my Super Control Panel and also in the EVF. It appears near the lower right-hand corner, just above the right end of the exposure compensation line. It has a "+2" and then a square with a sort of jagged diagonal line through it. Can anyone tell me what this icon stands for?

I just checked and yes, if a tone curve has been set there will be a curve icon with a number displayed next too it above and to the right of the compensation display. Never before have I noticed this.

Push the tone curve button behind the shutter release button to bring up the curve adjustment display. Push the ok button for a few seconds to reset the curve to default.

I do not have a clue, I have the 4.0 Firmware but do not see anything what you described.

If that's what it is, I must have done it by accident. Where would I go to check this?

Thanks to Rusk and The Eye for giving me the answer to this. It was a tone curve that I had mistakenly set while fiddling around with all the buttons and settings during my post-4.0 reconfiguration. Therefore, the appearance of this icon really had nothing to do with the 4.0 update itself. Anyway, glad I got rid of this setting before I did any shooting!

Just now checked my E-PL5 and E-P5 and they both have the same curves icon.

On those cameras there is no dedicated curves button so I have to press Up then Info and the curves adjust appears.

At first the low part is set via Left/Right or dial, press Info again and the high part is adjusted by Left/Right or dial.

Once it is set away from default straight line then the little icon appears on the screen.

I think the curves feature first came on the E-PL2.

Not on E-P1, E-P2, E-PL1 but on all the rest.

Regards........ Guy

Do you have a manual that specifically states the manual is for firmware v4.1? The link you specify yields a ver4 manual on my PC.
No, you are correct - it's actually for v4.0. It appears to be the latest revision of the manual though. The Japanese site shows the v4.0 manual as the latest revision too:

The only v4.1 update documentation that I'm aware of is the v4.1 firmware description, which lists and explains the new features briefly:
