The S5000, like the S602 and other similar cameras, has an "electroinic viewfinder" EVF. Throiugh the eyepiece, you see the image as seen by the sensor, just as it would appear on the back panel "LCD" monitor. (I say it that way since the EVF is also an LCD display.)
This is how my video camera works (as it does not have a big fold-out monitor.)

In the blurb (not the user review), I especially liked the part about the "familiar feel to photo enthusiasts".
