The d500 has no built in flash, not a problem for me I use the flash on my my other bodies very rarely. However this is a problem for some with a few saying they will not buy a d500 despite the many other advantages. Is there a solution to the problem such as this small flash on eBay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BY-18-Hot-Shoe-mini-Flash-for-Nikon-D5200-D5300-D7100-D800-D5100-D3200-D7000-UK-/281419715668?hash=item4185ec1454:g:omkAAOSw54xUWeOS

Please note I am not criticizing anyone's choice or opinion on a built in flash here, just wondering if this would be a sensible solution, or if anyone else has experience with this type of flash. I could be interested in a flash like this myself for the odd time I might need one, rather than carry my SB-700 around, this is afer all a low price accessory

I was also disappointed about the lack of a flash,,it was handy for fill without have to carry extra gear,,but I have a SB400 so all is well.

I think I would at least choose a flash that works with Nikon's i-TTL flash metering. If size is the criterion, maybe something similar to an SB-300. I don't have any experience with third party i-TTL flashes, but a quick eBay search turns up some smallish ones.

I don't use the built-in flash on my D7000 or D7100 much, so the lack of flash on the D500 is not a deal breaker for me, although having a flash around "just in case" is nice. I have an SB-900, which is a great flash, but it's too big to carry around all the time. So I'm thinking of getting a Nikon SB-300 once my D500 comes in. It's small, I-TTL compatible, swivels to do bounce, and is a tad more powerful than any built-in flash would be. And the price, while more than comparable 3rd party flashes, isn't bad either:

I dont think any one has mentioned the Nikon SB500, which came out at the same time as the D750. It's pocketable (big pocket), can be used as both a master or slave flash, and has a led secondary light for video.
