Hi All,
I will be going to my once a lifetime trip to Everest Base Camp this coming September. I have been looking around on the internet for different lens options but still undecided what lens combination is best for my trip. I will be trekking with a tour agent and most of the time will be traveling in a group. As I have scheduled my trip on a date such that there will be no moon when I am at the base camp, I am planning to shoot milky way in some of the evenings. Because of such, I need to have a lens that is good enough for milky way shoot. For camera system, I will bring my D750 and my Olympus Em5 II with me. The reason of this mix system is that I can double the focal length when my Nikkor being mounted on the EM5 II. For example, if I bring 18-35 and 70-200, my focal length will be 18-400 with only two lens. With this being say, my lens choices are basically down to two options:
1: Zeiss 21, Oly 12-40 F2.8, and 70-200F4G
2: Nikkor 18-35G, Samyang 24, and 70-200F4G
For option 1, I will use my Zeiss 21 as my milky way lens, I know this lens will have Vignette when shooting milky way, but I am not sure if I use stacking software, would it be having better result? In my other normal trekking time, I will be either using a) my Zeiss 21 as wide angle lens with the Oly 12-40, or b) Oly 12-40 with 70-200F4G.
For option 2, I will use my Samyang 24 as my milky way lens (the perfect one). In my other normal trekking time, I will use the 18-35 as wide lens with putting the 24mm into my EM5 II and make it a 48mm F1.4 (but manual focus only); of course the 70-200F4G will function as tele photo lens as usual
For any shoots need wider than 18 or 21mm, I will be doing panoramic shots. For focal length longer than 200, I will just put the 70-200 into my m43 as 140-400mm. For milky way shoot requiring a wider angle, again, I will do panoramic shots. (stacking 3 24mm shots will become an even prettier 14mm shots containing more detail)
As I currently do not own the Samyang, I do want more opinion for the options above before purchasing it. I know it is a very good one in milky way, but it may not be as good as a zeiss in general everyday use (but the zeiss is not a zoom like the 18-35G).
Thanks in advance for your advice.
PS: I will also bring along my Feisol CT-3442 Tripod and Markins Ballhead.
