Hi,

I have this one and like it.

Some of these tabletop tripods can be utterly useless outdoors on natural surfaces. You should explain what purpose it will be used for.

I use a Mefoto Daytrip as my all-purpose hiking/tabletop tripod. I think it's considered a "midi" tripod. The "midi" class favor the outdoor usage.

My light weight Induro AT013 tripod would also make a good table top tripod.

The Leica looks fabulous but frankly it is too expensive.
Are you not the person who asked "which is tje best mini tripod"?
I should have written "what is the best reasonably priced mini tripod with a ball head? :-)
Just my two cents: The "best reasonably priced" mini tripod is the one that will hold your gear safe and stable and will last, means work as supposed, for a long time. Therefore the recommendation of Ellis seems to fit the bill, as he seems to have his tripod already since long time and it seems to do what it is supposed to do!

But let's also have a look into the cost issue from another point of view: There seem to be people out there who have no problem to spend $2.000 and more for a camera and lens combo but then do not want to spend $200 or $300 for a tripod setup. You need a good camera and lens for a specific shooting condition? No problem for most people to go for the best they can get and afford! You need a tripod for a specific shooting condition? No problem, a cheap one also will do it! Sorry, but that's a little beyond me...!

I think it's down to how tripods are infrequently used by many photographers. That doesn't make it any less crazy, just trying to understand where people are coming from. Thankfully, decent tabletop tripods are a relatively affordable luxury.

I don't think this scenario necessarily applies to the OP, though (not that you're saying it does - just sayin'). You can shop for a decent tripod without necessarily needing the very best and most expensive. I think RRSRSVP is doing just that.

Exactly, it is like buying a car with a 6 cylinder vs. an 8 cylinder engine. At the end of the day the 6 will get me to my destination and use less gas. Perhaps I made a mistake and should have made the title "What is a good mini tripod that comes with a ballhead"? :-)

The RRS BC-18 is the smallest lightest I've used that's high quality. The Leica is also superb, but the two piece solution isn't a fast to set up as the RRS. The Leica ballhead is a bit better (IMHO). When I need to get low and have ultimate stability I use a Kirk groundpod with Acra Tech ballhead and leveling base for a bit more height and flexibility.

I would recommend the Cullmann Magnesit Copter.

It is all metal except for the feet which are rubber. And the ball head is surprisingly stable. It folds together really nice. I almost always have it with me in a pocket of my bag in case i need a tripod.

I use it with a Canon 6D and it works pretty well depending on what lens you are using. Any longer lens will of course be too heavy but it shorter lighter lenses work fine. Since most of the weight is in the legs part and the ball head is quite short the center of gravity is kept low.
