I don't like the new Blue dpr

The new one works for me. Wish it was available on every page.

I like the "light" version which is in beta trial, but I understand that the black version will continue to be available.

On the news page there is usually a pop-up which allows you to trial the new light version. At this point it only works on that page and not on the other pages.

If you don't like it, simply switch back to the dark version. Simple.

I prefer the black theme. Black is also friendlier on my phones battery.
My understanding is that LCD screens involve two main layers: one that provides the illumination, and one that has individual pixels (the liquid crystal layer) that can be adjusted for how much light they let through. The illumination layer is either on or off for its entire surface. It knows nothing about pixels. For black, the crystals in the liquid crystal layer are rotated so that they block the light from the illumination layer. The illumination part consumes most of the power and the pixels, black or white, consume power regardless of the pixel state.

Bottom line, I don't think displaying black web pages saves you any battery life.

Black screens do save battery life, depending upon you phone of choice.

The black DPR theme is superior in all respects and infinitely preferable. It should remain the default DPR theme.

The black one was always a pain. The light beta look is much better and MUCH easier to read.

Since dpreview is a gear review and discussion site first, and a photographic image site second, the light look should be the default as it is so much more legible.

to the eyes with less strain from the glare , as opposed to the lighter version.

The Blue / Yellow colour scheme no longer seems to be working. Presumably in trying to get the new 'light' system working something has got broken. Hope that gets fixed soon - the blue text against a black background is virtually unreadable.

It is well known to all but the DPR staff that dark blue on black is the worst possible colour combination for legibility.

This is because the retina has far fewer blue-sensitive cones than red- and green-sensitive.
