Twice a year the White House gardens are open to the public. It was a beautiful day to go. On the website, they said no bags, backpacks or lenses larger than 3 inches. So I took the 16-50, since I figured there would be plenty of light to hit its sweet spots. These are jpg, pretty much SOOC, except a little cropping, sharpening, NR in lightroom.

I guess this lens get no love, but I think it's pretty good. I took about 75 pics. These are the top 18. So you can say I cherry picked, but I don't feel I did. Some were framed better, some were duplicates, which minor changes in composition.

They were resized and may not look so good though.

Kit lens does well by me many times.nice shots

I would up the saturation for the JPG picture profile you are currently using. I also recently discovered the BRIGHT style, which helps in backlight situations if you want to stick with JPG and don't want to blow the highlights by using Exposure compensation. It effectively lights up the the lower lit parts.

I also recommend using Raw+Jpg and Capture One for Sony (Express version is free).

Took the liberty to edit one of your JPGS just to show what is possible even with JPGs file with four quick clicks in C1:

Warmed Whitebalance up and shifted a bit to green. Lifted shadows (HDR slider) and increased saturation. Makes the red leaves pop out more and looks more natural to me. The 1650 is a very good lens and I like its versatility while maintaing small size.

Thanks everyone. Thanks also for the PP. I am very weak there. I've only had the a6000 for a few weeks, and this is only my 2d outing with it. So there is lots to learn about it. Usually I shoot RAW but wanted aces to clear image zoom to try it out

Beautiful shots and exactly what this lens is meant for.

Great shots. And you got lucky. I live right near there, and a couple days before I went I asked Secret Service, showing him my a5100+ kit lens. He immediately identified it as a detachable lens, which are all prohibited, no matter what length. Well done, though!

Thanks. You should have tried again.

Amazing the cameras and lenses people brought in. I saw plenty of larger cameras and bags, which I figured would be denied. The website didn't say anything about detachable lenses, but I think it did say it had to be shorter than 3 inches and no bags or backpacks. At the end of the day, they basically let everyone and everything in, I think... I was alone so I didn't want to test my luck, after waiting inline for a ticket for 3 hours...
