I went to the local park and garden to take some pictures with my new a6300 and 18-105mm lens. In general, I am quite happy witht this "walk around" lens. It is lgihter than my Canon EF and has similar performance.

I am not an environmentalist. Why is it so important to put your names there and destroy natural beauty for no reason? It is a disgrace.

Agreed, but we will never get rid of graffiti. Never seen cactus graffiti though!

Also, what is happening in the last pic? Some sort of giant twisted cactus?

I've long wondered that myself. Nice pictures though.

It is a giant long twisted cactus tree. This is the only tree like this I have seen around this area. There might be a name tag. I will look it up when I go back there next time.

Heh...don't bother. This is as old as man traveling. Some roman inscriptions were found, even on monuments from that time.

Idiots and fools wite their names on everything (and act like tools)

Totally agree. Worst example of pseudo-social trolling I have seen in a DPReview equipment forum. Worked a treat though. I'm sure I've got a coupla shots of a Coke bottle in the harbour somewhere ... its a disgrace I just can't find them right now !!

The graffiti problem is caused by all schools. They teach how to write but don't pay enough attention to how to employ the skill.

Quite simply, people are idiots - many can barely contain their animalistic urges. (This also explains why advertising is so highly effective- but advertising is nondestructive and should not be confused with graffiti.)

Thanks for the post. 👍

There is no quick fix on this mess. It takes one or two generations to get it fixed if we are on the right path. It all starts with the family, parents must teach their kids not to do it. Many parents are probably single family, they don't care and might even do it themselves. We can fine the parents if their kids get caught. The school can educate and help. The main responsibility should be the parents.

Next to the catcus area is a rose garden. I saw a young adult cutting a rose to present to his wife or girlfriend in front of their kid. What do you think the kid will do when he/she grows up?

As a parent, I have seen kids behavior being influenced by their parents until adulthood including mine. Most of my friends expect their kdis going to college. It is not a matter orf going or not, it is just a choice of which college. All the kids have degree and make good contribution to society.

I don't think this country has the will to do the right thing.

I was curious about the people with the violins until I looked at the last shot. Having the lady to the right was nice to give the tree relative scale. I'm not a "nature" guy (I prefer man made wonders) but this forum has given me a better appreciation for natures beauty whether it's plants, animals or geological. If you get back to big cactus tree some close ups would be nice. Maybe shooting straight through all the twisting branches.

Will definitely go back to find out what kind of tree it is in two weeks. I am curious too.

The catcus tree picture was my last picture of the day as I exited the park. Then I saw a lady taking selfies on a gaint tree, I immediately took a snap shot.

I don't think I would have taken this picture if I had my DSLR. It is very likely I would have put my camera gear in back pack and missed this opportunity. Since a6300 is so light, I just happened to carry it when walking towards me car. This is another good reason to switch to mirrorless.

Last year two US tourists got busted carving their initials on the Colosseum in Rome. And, of course, they took a selfie in front of their vandalism. Don't know what they got fined but I hope it was a lot. A Russian tourist who did something similar was fined approximately $25,000 but hadn't paid it due to shortage of funds.

Yeah,

Here's a recent report about Rome's decay and Graffiti problem (though it's been happening for decades):

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-02/rome-ridden-with-rubbish-and-rats/7294396

Note: check out the photo of the truck used for cleaning.

People constantly scrub and clean graffiti, only to have it reappear the following day.

...

You can't reapply Grafitti without any hands.

I wouldn't call it a disgrace that some young lovers are carving their initials into a prickly pear, an invasive species causing environmental damage throughout much of the world. I wouldn't call in graffiti either, but whatever you call it, your photo would be pretty dull without it.

I just uploaded a few more pictures from the same trip. No more graffiti..

All these pictures were taken with 18-105mm lens. Will I get better picture quality on the flowers if I use prime lens? In what way does it get better? Which prime do you suggest at reasonable price range?

What mode were you shooting in for these last group of pictures?
