Hi folks,

I took my K-3II + Pentax 150-450mm (Images #1, #2, and #3) and Nikon D7100 + Sigma 150-600mm (Image #4) out to shoot at some BIFs (Canada Geese).

K-3II + Pentax 150-450mm - same image but looking at it three different ways.

Image #1 - Pentax K-3II + Pentax 150-450mm

Image #1 - Pentax K-3II + Pentax 150-450mm

Image #2 - Cropped to 10x8 inches from the previous image.

Image #2 - Cropped to 10x8 inches from the previous image.

Image #3 - A further crop from the previous image in order to see it a bit closer.

The next image was taken with the Nikon D7100 + Sigma 150-600mm lens. This is the very first BIF I have taken with this rig.

Cheers.

The crop in #2 is my favorite, well done Ron.

Thanks Leopold.

I am not prepared to say just yet Leopold. This is my first try at BIF with the Nikon combo.

I would prefer a K-mount Sigma 150-600mm lens. I prefer Pentax cameras over Nikon cameras.

The Nikon D7100 + Sigma 150-600mm focuses and locks on faster.

In this case it does. The shooting angle from the sun was different for the two images.

I prefer to wait until I make some other shoots before I decide.

If these shots were taken from approx. the same distance, then the last shot shows the capabilities of that 150-600 combo compared to the 150-450.
I would say they were shot at about the same distance. Image #1 was not cropped. Image #4 has been slightly cropped.

The Nikon is a nicer composition but dont let the look fool you if your comparing fro quality the Pentax image carries more detail

This may be because of the higher ISO used on the Nikon or more heat haze or less IQ from the lens.

The juries out but both are very high grade images and the extra reach of the Sigma would be welcome.

I look forward to more images of these two lens from you Ron.

I look forward to your post on both lenses with several TCs stacked to determine the true winner in this competition.

You got to be kidding...and all this from a 1200 dpi image.

You've lost me

I've never posted any image with stacked TC's nor do I think its a good idea.

Thanks awaldram. I will see what I can do.

I'd like to see an apples to apples comparison at 450mm. Comparing 450 to 600 is not really relevant unless you are just comparing reach. Its much easier to design a good 3x zoom than a good 4x zoom. For instance my Sigma 100-300/4 is better throughout its range than the first generation Canon 100-400 (they are equal at 200mm). However even though the Sigma is very good with a 1.4x it then is below the 100-400 at a 400mm equivalent.

Hi folks,

I printed Image #2 through Image #4 at 10x8 inches and the all look good to me. Hard to choose a favorite for me.

Nice shots and as I said before I will be right after you ordering the Sigma 150-600 if it ever appears in the K mount. These are the birds I will hopefully learn bird photography on. They are big, numerous where I am at, and many times I only have to venture out 25 ft from my front door and they will be there.

Almost missed your thread Ron. Was looking for a thread by Greyser that showed a really nice shot of an osprey taking off with a fish in it's bill with water flying everywhere.. Wanted to show this one to my Canon loving co-worker. Instead I will show him these shots.

Nice shots
Thanks Jim. I'm glad you like them
