As many of you have seen I have put the files on my web site for download, they are the version c files kindly sent to me by other members (thankyou) in the hope it would stop the continual asking for firmware.

http://www.aptj56.dsl.pipex.com/D100_FirmwareUpdate_En1.zip

http://www.aptj56.dsl.pipex.com/D100_FirmwareUpdate_En2.zip

If you would like the later versions I am willing to add a link as long as the files come from members of this forum and I assume its not in contradiction of this forum. If it is I may have to pull the files as I really enjoy my membership here, too much good info to miss.

Please send me any other versions with comments by e-mail ([email protected])

Regards

Stu

I just updated my firmware to 2.0. I was wondering if it was normal to have light smoke coming from the USB connector after the update ?

So I checked my version 2.0 D100, purchased in early Dec 2002. I probably have a revision a or revision b, because I do not appear to have the 30s bug that was mentioned on robgalbraith.com

For those that have upgraded to 2.0c, can you confirm whether the 30 sec bug is real? Set your camera to shutter priority and set a 30 second exposure. According to the post, the exposure will actually only be 17 seconds long.

If this is the case, I will probably hold off until a 2.0d makes its appearance here. While I have never done an exposure of 30 seconds, I'd prefer it not to be a new "feature" of my camera.

Both those files are identical (on a binary comparison) to the D100_FirmwareUpdate_En.zip file that I was sent last week, and I've also seen floating around on peer-to-peer networks.

The MD5 sum is 2e5bc1bcfc0bdbda610aa1963af546cd

Someone (I believe Fr.Bob) stated they had version 2.00d. Anyway I couldnt find it posted anywhere so I tried the "C" version. (unfortunately I FORGOT to take some controlled images on a tripod to get a good comparision of the differences between the "C" and what I had on my D100. (certainly not the C version because I sent for an upgrade in Sept 02)

The date ON THE FILE [R100200C.BIN] IN THE ZIP FILE states Jan 04, 2003 however that is not necessarily the date of the release.

I did test my camera for the 30 second/17 second bug but it did not have it prior to the upgrade. HOWEVER it also did NOT display that bug AFTER the upgrade either.

My assumption in Nikon not wanting this proprietary info out is that someone will probably reverse engineer/decompile the source code. Hmmm. If someone 'could' understand that, they may be able to make tweeks beyond the confines of Nikon.

Anyway still awaiting someone to post/host the "D" version.

Thanks for posting this (and to the other person that sent me a copy). I just completed the upgrade from v1.0. Worked flawlessly.

Anyone know why the instructions say to prepare 2(!) CF cards? You only need one it seems.

i remember this 'bug' being reported when the D100 first came out. matter of fact it was one of the first tests i did with my camera in July 02 to see if it was working correctly. didn't have it then, and don't have it now...dav

Hi Stu.

Just curious. How many hits have you had on your site since putting the firmware up?

One CF card is used to store the "loader" software which you may want to update also but not necessary.

One CF card is used to store the "firmware" software to update the fimrware to v2.0.
Anyone know why the instructions say to prepare 2(!) CF cards? You
only need one it seems.
I was trying to find out before I do the update. Do I put both
files on one card and let it go, or do I have to use 2 cards?

Thanks,

Steve

Ah, I see. Thanks. I guess I just did the firmware. Can the loader be updated after the firmware or does it need to be in order?

Hi Stu.

Unfortunatly, I don't have any other versions. But they sure would be interesting for comparison's sake, even older versions like 2.0B or or 1.1.
