Here's some footage I've shot with the Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6K.

Be aware, the camera files are really large and you need the current version of Resolve to load the shots.

Enjoy !

Thanks for the link. They sure are nice, and sort of GAS-inducing, as are the teasers released by BM.

Speaking of large files, I'm planning to acquire some new gear within the next two months, and I'm curious what kind of gear did you need to transcode, grade and edit those 4K RAW files with Resolve 12 fluently? What's the practical minimum level, in your experience?

Just curious, for now...

GAS-inducing indeed. $3K for the 4K model (and a mere 12 stops of DR) is within that "well maybe if I..." range. Alas, I prefer to stay married.

I love the huge heat sink/cooler in their picture of the sensor on their site. It clearly explains why many of our cameras a limited in record time and performance.

Hi.

Blackmagic do a really great configuration guide.

In my experience PC's are better than mac for this in terms of bang for buck. Even mac heads tend to set up PC based resolve stations because it's easier to add more GPUs.

Resolve runs best with lot's of GPU, typically more have at least two high end GPU cards fitted and of course RAID based dries to serves the files up fast enough.

Resolve has some pretty good tools for working offline and in proxy mode, so I have an early 2011 i7 Macbook that runs the current version of Resolve but I can only get 0.5FPS playing back 4.6K RAW files without even applying a grade :-)

Yeah, it's a good resource indeed, I used it the last time around. Didn't remember it at first, for some reason.

Yeah, it may be easier, but a life with Windows certainly isn't. ;)

The thought of a dedicated Resolve Station has crossed my mind, though.

I'm running Resolve 12 (the App Store version) in the latest/full spec MBP, and it runs ok. Working with BMCC/BMPCC RAW is doable, too, but I think the 4K RAW from the 4.6K Ursa Mini might be a bit of a stretch... :)

Some day we will have external GPU access over thunderbolt. That has been a hope pretty much since thunderbolt was first released and possible on Windows but not OSX.

I hope that when we get USB C as standard on all the macs that we might see this.

The PC hardware was/is not the issue here, it's Windows.
