Frances,

Nice shot!

I have really only used the EE and EE+B-300 using auto focus. I know using macro mode works better but is slower. These are the settings I use for the EE and EE+B-300 to get the best focus out of auto focus from full wide to full zoom. The marks just give approximate positions, but I don't think the exact position is critical. I have found, when using auto focus, setting the EE closer to "Close focus" (long length) using the B-300 and more to "Long Focus" (short length) works best over the full zoom. You may want to try and see what you get.

I believe several others have mentioned the approach recommended by Paul. I don't know that the lines are necessary, but backing the zoom off one third to one half rotation to get an initial focus with the EE and then let the camera's AF in macro mode do the rest. I also find that using a tripod/monopod/beanbag or some sort of support helps as does spot/center meteringl. You may have hands and nerves like FRED, so you may not need the tripod/support.

I've tried setting to infinity, but I prefer macro. You will definitly find some of those wind surfer photos a challenge, but hey the film is already paid for.

This combo also requires lots of light as you have probably have already figured out, but it's a real kick in the pants when you get a good one. The the more you shoot, the better the photos get.

Keep shooting.

Trent

Hope some of this helps you to get in the ball park.
