This stream is near my home. Which image do you like best, and why? Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for replies

Gary

I had posted 2 other shots for comparison, but they were not viewable in thread. Anyone know why?

I've been having the same problem all night.; not only with what I posted but, with other peoples images. Glad to hear I'm not alone. It's the weekend and DPR is probably running on autopilot.

Number three for me.

Numbers 1 and 4 would have immediately gone to my "cutting room floor". To me, they are nice enough pictures, but nothing special in any way. 2 and 3 have much better qualities. 2 has a very nice balance of large and small components, well balanced in a movement of the eye around the image (as opposed to 1 and 4 where those components just sit there and don't engage the eye.) Although the color scheme in 1, 2 and 4 is comparable, it is most pleasing in 2 where the warm tones against the green elements in the upper right have enough strength to add interest.

Number 3 is also a very nice image in itself, well composed and exposed for movement and interest, with the upper right warm colors against the green also adding a pleasant vignette. I would not judge it against the other images, as it tells a different view of your "story". 2 and 3 are both nicely crafted.

Personally, I like # 4. It appears to be a closeup or crop of #2, but 4 is my choice.

#3

#3 by far for me. The composition is the best and there's nothing to cause my eye to wander away from the stream. Very nice.

The wonderful thing about art is that we gravitate to what attracts us, and therefore everyone's individual choice is just as valid as another's. By replying to my post, I appreciate you pointing this out.

You are a very accomplished Pentaxian; I like the last one best.

Three for me. I can see why some have gone for four but I think it would work better with more foreground.

is #3. With 2 second. Ed, thank you for your explanation of your opinions. I really appreciate that; very helpful to get other perspectives to improve our eye. #4 is not actually a crop of #2, just a closer view. It's funny, but some days I can look at an image and like it, but the next day I don't, or like an image I didn't earlier. Aah, the human brain...

Cheers

2 and 4 are both excellent.
I like this a little better after increasing the vibrance and saturation and a little distortion work as the creek bed above the falls is tilted. The second version I cloned out the white spot on the left edge and burned the crooked limb so it is a little attracts my eye a little less.
I like these two the best, and would rate them about equal IMHO. I would, however, clone out the two white spots on the rocks on both sides as they are both too close to the edge, and draw my eye there. There also appears to be a little lens distortion as the rock on the left appears to be tilted up based on the water line. Also I would deepen it a little and increase vibrance and saturation a bit and maybe a little sharpening.

You always have good ideas, David

Don't we all!!!!!

I would probably choose #2. But I think all could be improved with some PP. They have a sort of cyan/gloomy look to them that doesn't have to be. (Incidentally, saving jpeg's at level 12 in Photoshop needlessly increases (nearly triples) file size. The image quality elevator only goes up to the 10th floor.)

David, I like your suggestions and changes. I tend to be conservative on my PP, but I think your changes add some pop. Thanks mucho
