does the A6300 justify the premium, stills only, no video. Who has does the analysis? Or keep Nex. Is it just GAS?

I wasn't planning on getting an A6300 until handling it at best buy today. The construction alone and speed makes me want to upgrade. You will notice such a big difference between the nex6 and a6300. Also it has continuous eye AF like the A7rii.

That question can't be answered until some knowledgeable photographer actually does some comparison shots and posts the images. So far all I've seen are endless videos about AF. And I really don't care if the body is plastic or magnesium; I've never dropped a camera in 30 years.

Check this. It`s a bit on commercial side, but some sings may be useful.
"Our advice: get the a6300 if you shoot action or video, prefer mirrorless, and the Sony lens lineup has everything you might need. If you don’t shoot action or video, the a6000 should be just fine, and it’s half the price."

Seems to be an honest and fair evaluation. I agree with their conclusion. I just purchased a Sony A6000 for $440 delivered. The added features of the A6300 are nice but not worth $600+ to Me.

Yes, I'm hoping some early adopters make that assessment .

we don't know about the IQ, so apart from that things that make upgrade worth it for me:

- the new PDAF system

- ability to use PDAF with adapted lenses

- The new EVF with no slideshow effect up to 8fps

- ability to set minimum shutter speed

- bigger buffer

- silent shutter

- ability to charge the camera while shooting via. USB

- the level gauge is back (I have owned 7 sony bodies and they all had this apart from A6000. even my mobile phone has it!). I know it may sound a bit silly to mention this one but like they say you only find out how much something is worth to you after you lose it ;)

Those are the ones I can think of on top of my mind. The new magnesium alloy build and new video features aren't something that makes a huge difference to me at this point. I keep meaning to use the video features I have in my current cameras but never got round to it.

YMMV.

I just purchased the a6000, primarily as a backup underwater camera, and am very pleased with it thus far. I don't shoot video or sports. Noise at higher ISO's was my bigger concern but I think it does well up to 1000-1600. For the much cheaper price, it was the right decision for me.

I just upgraded from the NEX-6 to the a6300 because I love the idea of being able to take advantage of the new af features and taking advantage of that with other manufacturer's lenses with the right adapter.

For me the a6000 wasnt an upgrade and at present the a6300 isn't worth moving from my Nex 6.

Why is everyone crazed about using adapters?

because it lets us use lenses with PDAF we otherwise wouldn't have the option to use with usable AF.

Personally I am looking forward to using things like sigma 18-35mm/1.8 and canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8. Such lenses aren't available on e-mount and may never be.

If you have the cash go for the A6300. There are no bad upgrade points coming from the NEX-6. But if you want to save a bunch, the A6000 can be had for almost half the cost of the A6300.

I have the NEX-6 and purchased the a6300, so apparently it was worth it to me.

Having said that, from a pure dollar and cents point of view, I don't think the a6300 would be worth the extra $500. All of the extra features will be nice to have but I can't imagine my finished photo's are going to be noticeably better.

And God only knows when or even if I'll be able to tweak the RAW files in PS-Elements or LR 5.7.

Yeah well, for me its no point having a small camera and then fitting larger, heavier lenses.
Just because someone buys a big lens doesn't suddenly make their whole system big. My small lenses are still remain small!

I never understood this ideology/logic. If I buy one big lens suddenly all my small lenses don't gain weight do they. I still have the option of going small when needed but now I also have the option of using other lenses I didn't before.

Plus not all adapted lenses need to be big. EF-S 24mm I mention is a pancake lens, even with adapter it's plenty small. Same applies for EF 40mm/2.8, Sony 85mm/2.8, 30mm/2.8 etc etc etc.

If you aren't interested that's up to you, just explaining why others inc. me are interested in adapters since you asked ;)

I did say for me, I guess there are people that get a kick in playing with adapters and fitting this lens to that camera. I use the nex for walking, so I like the compact size. I realise everyones different. Its a must have toy for some.
certainly is a toy for me :D I have no problem admitting that.

I too use my cameras for travel and have optimized it for that purpose.

But I like my toys too when I am at home or close to home ;)

You're comment is true and well taken, but that's not the only way to look at this issue.

You could just as well say that you have a wonderful picture taking machine that can use every lens under the sun and it just happens to be small and light. You could then use small, lightweight native mount lenses for travel or casual use, and use bigger, heavier specialty lenses for particular situations where they would be more appropriate. For me that would be an "A" mount 90 mm Micro, and a 70-300 "G" lens.

The only thing I think is kind of weird is to use a big heavy lens and then go backpacking or bicycling, and complain the camera felt front heavy while taking a selfie.

Its cool Ray I do see everyone's point of view. I guess I'm disappointed that the camera is so expensive for identical features that id use and have on my nex. Up to now the image quality (so I've heard) isn't something fantastic over the a6000. I'd have liked to have seen a small zoom lens with better imaging , similar to the 16-50.
