Sony raw files are natively supported under OS X. What's the issue?

Highlight any .ARW file and press Command+I to open the Get Info window. You should see a section called "Open With". Change that to Preview.

Something changed after the A7ii Firmware update a few months ago (Uncompressed RAW support) and Apple hasn't updated the A7ii CameraRaw profile yet. I think it works in El Capitan...

The newest version of MAC? What does that mean? New computer? Or do you mean new OS X (El Capitan being the latest 10.11.3)?

Raw files in OS X is handled as a part of the OS and if you have not kept up with the updates, you may need to simply bring your Mac up to date.

The other is to make sure you have sufficient RAM or it will really bog down while the OS is generating previews images for the file.

The other question is "...on a separate drive" What does that mean? Are you just saying that the OS is installed in an internal drive and your files are on an external drive?

As for sorting your files, I have a7Rii and the files are either 42Mb or 84Mb (compressed or uncompressed) and using the OS viewer, like suggested by a post is not an option for me. It is simply too slow to go from one file to another.

Having used ViewNX with NEF files, I get that you want to go through the images quickly and get rid of non-keepers and even rename them. What sw are you using to process the raw files? If you are using C1 or LR, then you can simply do that once imported into the file management portion of either of the sw. You can use Photo app as well for similar purposes.

That said, I use IJFR (Instant JPEG From Raw, just google ijfr and you find it) to extract embedded jpeg from raw files and use the OS previews to rapidly go through and ID keepers. I don't bother to rename files.

Have you tried Sony native RAW converter, Image Data Converter?

Not sure if it supports uncompressed ARW files?

IMHO, I believe you should update your OS. One of my machines is a 3 or 4 year old mac mini. It works just fine. I believe its a free update. For security and everything else its probably a good idea... again just mho.

Thanks again. Yes it defaulted to use "preview" and not camera RAW file. I

The uncompressed raw is only supported in 10.10 Yosemite but not 10.8 if you've done OS updates.
Agreed.
I am running 10.10.5 Yosemite with all the updates, and I can NOT view A7ii ARW (compressed format) files directly in the Finder. I believe the issue is that I shoot RAW only. No JPEG. So there is no JPEG preview for the Finder to use. Files open and display correctly in Photoshop and LR CC.

This only started happening after the last A7ii Firmware update.

Something else must be missing. I can view them as well as A7RII files, but I also have El Capitan.
