I own a Canon S30 camera, so it has some advanced features. I am getting fairly competent at photo editing in photoshop, but when it comes to using the camera, I am a real novice.

I would like to buy a book that can help me learn the basics of photography such as, aperature settings, shutter speeds, white balance, focusing, etc.

Can anyone recommend a good book to help me.

Thank you.

Here is a good place to check out books - they give you ratings and reviews. I don't think there is one perfect book.

Thank you so much. This should give me a lot of information to go on.

Unless I am missing something, the page links to Amazon.com and their reviews. Is there a page on the showtel site that has its own reviews that I haven't found? I am interesting in finding a photography book reviews site, sort of like a nano version of dpreview.

Photography & Digital Imaging
by Marvin J. Rosen & David L DeVries

I use it to teach at a local community college (I teach part time)

There are a few chapters I leave out, but the majority of the book is good

the chapters we don't cover in my classes were already covered by other instructors and other manuals.

Since thos courses are a pre req to mine

I do not want to beat people over the head with data already taught to them - so the chapters on liquid (traditional) darkroom and history of photography I skip :)
