I've just upgraded my D100 to firmware version 2.0c "R100200C.BIN"

The most distinct change is that my RAW "NEF" files are now 9.56MB each while they were 9.47 MB previousely "1.01" what is the extra 90KB for, I haven't been able to undrestand. Everyhting else is the same...

What I don't undrestand is the fact that this is a user upgradable firmware "just like the coolpix series" why nikon are wasting "at least" their own technical staff's time and resources to do this upgrade and cuase a major dissatisfaction and trouble for the customers having the cameras sent to Nikon ...It's totally awful and meaningless...If this weren't a user upgradable firmware, we wouldn't be able to do it so easily, It's the common .BIN file which is being flashed to the EPROM onboard, no change in circuitry etc. ...so why they can't put the files on their web site... total nonesense

My special thanks to the one who sent me the files

Thanks,

I'm not sure what the protocol is for asking if the file can be sent to me via email from one of you nice folks...

I'm very interested in the v2.00 vs. v2.00c image quality differences posted in another thread here.

so if anyone can, it'd be greatly appreciated if someone could pass the file my way. THanks,

Why don't you download it? if you have read other threads, you also read that someone posted a place to download it. No need to ask any more.

I just found the 2 zip files that were posted here.. so I guess i don't need anyone to send me anything.

I'm going to do a bitwise comparison to see if they are the same...

Great Job, Matt. I just used Wordpad to open the two files, and saw the version was the same (an old trick - open the file in a text editor and look for 'ver').

Now, the glaring dispute remains - and I fear the result - is it worth it for a V2 camera to be updated to V2C???

" Well, there is a new D100 firmware, as I have just updated mine as well. . The new firmware is indeed 2.00d. The previous was 2.00c. These are very incremental updates. The 2.00d upgrade just fixes this bug: If you set your shutter to 30 seconds with firmware 2.00c it will actually go off at 17 seconds. Nothing to get your panties in a knot for. The new firmware will still only show as 2.00 on your camera though and in software. Nikon can only see the incremental firmware with their equipment. So, there is a 2.00 a,b,c and d version of the firmware, but only with very minor differences. Nikon does not publicize this I suppose, to keep users from thinking it is a must have upgrade. That said, I imagine it would be the same for D1X firmware incremental updates as well. "

Using wordpad on the loader file you will see their is also a reference to file C100200.bin could this be the pixel mapping ?
