I have had 2 Nikon HB69 lens hoods and neither click into place or tighten when screwed all the way on - it just sits there fully loose. Can anyone else comment on this?

Thanks, Bill

If your lens is the 18-55 VR and not VR I or VR II, the hood should be HB45 ?

Then you have the right lens hood, although not a proper working one. If possible send it back and try again. You might also try the lens hood HB45 that was used on previous lens versions. Many of Nikon's lens hoods are interchangeable with other lenses. I don't own this lens but have the 55-200mm VR II lens with a HB34 lens hood, which works fine.

Are you sure you are applying enough force to click it in place?

When you put the hood on the lens, be sure the lens dot lines up with the line on the hood. Twist until you get the line with an angle. You should hear the hood click into place.

If you don't the hood will be loose. I've had it happen if you use the reverse to stow the hood on the lens to put it away.
