Picked up an M3! Wanted to try my hand at developing my own film. Wish me luck!

These are a couple of images I've taken. It's been a interesting experience learning how to develop the film, and to find a good way to scan it.

It's been a week but I've learned a lot. Initially I had lots of issues with white spots coming through (not dust), and that seems to have been the result of not fixing the film enough.

I tried the Epson v600 to scan in my negatives, but this scanner produced consistently soft (out of focus) and unacceptable results. I optimised my workflow with this scanner such that I could get decent looking images when viewed regularly by utilising USM, but something was just niggling at me, so I tried out the Plustek 8100.

The difference between the Plustek and the Epson is night and day (and the Plustek was cheaper by ~£50...).

With the Epson, I wondered if my focus was just off. With the Plustek, I know if my focus is off because the grain is sharp and in focus (which just looks great).

It takes a lot longer to scan with the Plustek, but that's totally irrelevant from my POV. The Epson is simply not viable so it's a no-brainer. Highly recommend this line of scanners.

These images are shot with Tri-X 400 pushed to 1600 :)

Thanks for sharing. Nice pics

Pushed Tri-X to 1600 is always going to give you a blurrier image. You can minimize it by using a special level of developer. Sorry, I last shot B&W in 1984. I continued to shoot colour slide until the early part of this century, and I did push some colour slide mostly Fuji 800 to 1600 for under water work.

Good for you on giving this a shot. I'm sure Kodak and HP will continue to make B&W available, but who knows

I'm happy to see images that retain the edge values of the light spectrum - these are lovely. The school of compressing the tonal range where it is predominantly mid tones somehow loses something for me.

kudos to you for trying things out with the scanning. Just occurs as fiddly to me. But I am enjoying your efforts. Thank you.

I fully concur with David. I don't want to see every level of tone of every object in an image. I happen to really like the grain as it is in your images. Post more if you get the chance.

Cheers
