Hello there! I have a 600D (T3i) camera and I'm thinking about buying Tamron 17-50 VC lens for filming. But I was wondering whether this lens is still good compared to other and if it's good for the future. I might buy Canon 70D after a year or so, so it would be nice if Tamron 17-50 worked well with it, especially autofocus in Tamron 17-50VC.. Is 17-50 VC's autofocus any good with 70D's autofocus system? I also have Canon 10-18 which works well and will work as well with 70D. Thanks!

It should be fine for the future, but it is generally regarded as the worst of the three stabilized 17-50 lenses with both the sigma and the canon being better. If you're on a budget I would do the sigma, if not, you could spring for the canon

I had one on a 450D 5+ years ago. The VC when turned on is very noisy. Images or on the bright side and soft wide open. I still kept it just for a desperate back-up. It's dirt cheap anyway.

Apparently the tamron gives an error if you try to autofocus with it on the 70D in video mode.

If your goal is to get a 70D soon, I would be looking at the STM lenses for video.
So that would be only Canon's 18-55 STM lens?
If your budget allows, I would try to look at the 18-135mm STM lens. With that and the 10-18mm STM lens that you already have, you should be able to take lots of great still photos as well as video with your future 70D. You should be able to purchase the 18-135mm STM with the 70D as a kit for cheaper price. Then when you get a chance, you can add the 55-250mm STM lens and you would have a great range of lenses covering from 10-250mm.

Of course these are variable aperture lenses and not a constant f2.8 lens like the Tamron lens that you were thinking of so not as good in low light situation. However in my experience, with crop sensor cameras, I'm using f2 or lower prime lenses anyway for low light situations if DOF field allows for it anyway so that would make much of a difference for me personally. YMMV.
