1 light & Reflector

Main light is a medium SB camera right and high, pointing downward
and across the girl. Gold reflector just out of frame camera left.

One comment, By lowering the main light a little, you avoid having the shadow of here nose reach toi her lip. That shadow gives a hint of a sneer that is not really there.

Controling the nose shadow (looking where it falls and how much of the face is covered) is an important part of getting the look you want.

I agree with the last post. One thing I noticed is her shirt blends with the background, maybe be design but I'd prefer a different color. Also, her smile looks a bit unnatural to me so - which probably is common in ladies who aren't used to posing.

I'm still curious, is this heavy metal set something you lugged home or on location somewhere?

set is part of my studio equipment. The smile is just her's. She's never had her picture taken before, as was really nervous. We finally got to playing around, and she relaxed later on. With regard to the blouse, the other two she brought in, were not going to work in the set due to the colors.

Thank

Hi Phillip,

Nice picture. I'm always impressed with your work! but what I've been wondering is how much photoshop effort goes into your work? Could you post a pre-photoshop version?

it available right now, but this image had this done to it.

1). Crop to size
2). Sharpened & USM
3). Cloned out small acne on forehead
4). Bumped up curves just a tweak
5). Run softening action
6). Added gradients in the corners
7). Saved

How do you soften, just using the Gaussian blur filter some?

Great shot, I dream of the day when I can do that. I kind of like the brown blouse, subtle contrast and brings mmore attention to her face.

Thanks
Art McC..

Next time try using barn doors or flags to create more of a "shaft of light" or "window" effect. That way you could let more of the background and the lower part of her torso go dark.

And THAT way, you could let shadows hide the slight bulges around her midsection, which really aren't very flattering.

Buldges ? I think she looks great, I don't like that rice cake a week look where one can the wonams bones looking like some starving third world refugee that fashion folks ( and I guess some photographers) think looks so great.

Be that as it may be, I've yet to meet a woman that want's to look wider than she actually is....
