Hey guys, not sure where to start here, I have 3 old yashica electro 35s 1 works fine and two have faulty electrics one of the faulty's has a clean lens that I wanted to adapt to E mount. I can strip the lens off okay and I'm guessing I just need to attach it to an old E mount adapter but unsure which one to use or even how to attach it? Anyone on here tried something similar?

Not 100% impossible, but its a frankenlens, cant be simply adapted.

Yes there's a guy selling ones on ebay in the states so it is possible, just wandering if anyone had any experience adapting one :)

There are write ups if you google it, but not many. It's a mess, you have to remove the integrated leaf shutter, and if I recall epoxy it into another mount while keeping the correct flange distance and every thing square. I have not problem opening up lenses and decided it was a crazy undertaking, but more power to you if you pull it off.

Many thanks for those links!

I found a guide..........wow.

The lens removal and shutter deactivation doesn't worry me but creating the mount does I simply don't have the tools.

The donor mount would be leica it's just fiddling and remounting the retaining pins and sorting infinity focus that worries me......

Thanks for posting that link, I had never seen that write up before and that's by far the best job I've seen. I actually just might undertake that if I can find the 4mm and 2mm aluminum rings.

I have drills and files are cheap and easy. Doesn't look super strong but it's a small light lens. I'll agree setting correct MFD will be interesting, I'm curious how he checked it as he mentioned it took a little trial and error.

Hmm, looking at it, you can probably put the Emount side on the camera, just insert the assembly and set to min focus...

Still, much cleaner than others I had seen!

I've done it in micro 4/3 mount. It was a while ago so I can't remember all the details, however, I used a C-mount adapter (which for micro 4/3 is the thinnest adapter you can get - basically a thin plate) plus a spacer, made, if I recall correctly, from drilling the centre out of a plastic cap (can't remember what it was from now, probably the fint cap that came with some adapter or other.

Basically what you need to do is put the adapter on the camera, hold the lens up in front and figure out approximately what spacing you need for infinity focus, and then find something about the right thickness. Then put the whole lot together, try it, and see if you need to make adjustments. The good thing about using a plastic spacer is it is relatively easy to sand it thinner, provided you put sandpaper on a flat surface, and move the spacer around while sanding.

Once you have got it how you want it, epoxy the whole lot together.

And by the way, you don't need to remove the shutter from the lens, you just need to make it always in the open position. As I recall I removed a number of items from the shutter mechanism ares, found what actually opened and closed the shutter, opened it, and then jammed it in that position.

I just asked a question on there. I was more worried about A how he tapped for the screws and B those washers are $30+ shipped to the US and the 4mm isn't available. I think I might be able to Dremel the m39 thread to make it work though. I already have a Electro with a bad shutter my wife got me at a yard sale. I can get a m39 adapter for about $8. I think I'll give it a go. It's going to take me a few weeks but I'll update when I get around to it.

More good info :)

I've ordered another m39 to emount adapter, when that arrives ill do the measurements and get some washers ordered from eBay. Will need to get a cheap dremel tool too

Lens is off! Wasn't bad at all, if you remove the bottom plate it's pretty easy, the front plate sits under both so it'll be harder if you don't remove. Only held on by 3 screws though. Now need the adapter and Dremel grinding bits to come in.

I'd say I'm about 90% there but ran out of time tonight. Of course the fun of adjusting focus is still ahead...

Need to make the notch for focus tabs deeper tomorrow then reattach and can work on focus. They weren't deep enough tonight so the ring wouldn't sit flush. I used a 1/16 bit to make holes, screws are sort of tapping, but I'll epoxy in place once done. Photos to come tomorrow.

Well, sadness...

After another hour of fitting and grinding I finally had a dry fit. Put it in the mount sort of free lensing. Got to 3' cause that was easy to measure. Went to check infinity and found the helicoid was basically all the way seated. All I can guess is that other guys adapter was intentionally short like a lot are, and mine wasn't. I can get to about 5', I'm guessing I'm about 1mm from infinity but I can't reliably grind that so back to the drawing board...

Sleep on it for a while, sometimes a solution will present it's self.

I just wish the lens from my Rollei XF 35(40/2.3)was sharper wide open, that transplant was super easy.

I don't have any AF lenses, so if I want a picture, I have to do more than squeeze a button.
