Beautiful image!

Your trophy must have gotten lost in the mail.

General readers:

In terms of the suggestions, keep them coming. There is the chance that one might be doable. My only idea is that Mako be required to post one Lacey pic each week. That would be a draw.

Seems to me the main purpose of these threads was to keep shooting, and share some favorite pics. I considered the winners to be pretty much secondary. If it turned into a big deal contest, I think that would actually discourage participation - as people would only want to enter their BEST photos.

I think it's just fine as is.

Woah! Great light and PP, very artsy!

8 sec exposure: did you use a ND filter or the small aperture was enough?

Beautiful!

Cheers

Hi Wickie, nice to see you here around! :-)

It seems you are "testing" your new D7200 very well, nice capture (and a cute subject for sure!).

Cheers

Lacie even thinks I'm cute...the muscle behind me says you better agree.

Yes, I agree with what you have said. An original purpose of this thread was to get us out shooting which is why library posting is not allowed. Winning is not everything or even close. It is fine the way it is. But, wouldn't it be better if more there were more than 30 entries each week? When the thread drops off the front page with no entries for two days, I think there can be room for improvement. Maybe there is nothing that can be done to increase participation. Just open to ideas. Someone brought this up before the Best of 2015 thread. Following up on that.

Another week rolls by. The decline in entries has me concerned. This thread is much more fun when the energy of participation takes it into high gear. Perhaps there is a logical reason and the the posting will increase again soon. Maybe everything has a cycle and this one is reaching a natural conclusion. But, if anyone has any ideas, you are welcome to add a note perhaps separately from your submission (don't want confused voting). Opening the thread up to all Nikon cameras did not make a dent. What would Abraham Lincoln have done?
I'll add my 2 cents to the mix.

The first thing that comes to mind is complication, we don't need that. The voting procedure is just fine.

Maybe extend the eligibility period to 3 maybe 4 weeks. Sometimes in one weekend I can get 3 or 4 different photos that I feel would be worthy to enter in the contest, but they would "time out" in 2 weeks.

Maybe open the contest to all cameras? That's right, I said that out loud! LOL. A great photo is just that, great. Why does it necessarily matter the make of the camera? Of course it does here because this is a Nikon community, but really, if it's about a great photo.................

As far as the decline in entries, I see that as kind of seasonal. It comes and goes, no big deal. I will agree though, that more participation is better. I enjoy this thread because I'm always looking to expand my knowledge and abilities........and by nature, I'm competitive. That's what I call win-win, or win-lose:-D

A beautiful view and very well captured, I really like the atmosphere.

Congrats

Vitto
Thank you Vitto, its great to read such comments. For you, I post another image that likely I cannot enter - this was my first choice (that I liked from my Cracow trip) but asked around which is better of the two and the castle come up on top by vote of my wife.

Hope you like this as well. Stars can be seen on full image too!

First point: agree. The procedure seems fine.

Two: Expanding the eligibility period makes sense and has been mentioned by another member. One month would not make our images stale.

Three: I mentioned that before but in a private message. I wanted the ideas to originate from the members (not me). But, once offered, I feel free to comment. On this point, I agree. Other forums have open contests. I used to share some images captured with my Sigma lenses on the Sigma Forum even though that forum is more about the cameras. It was nice to be welcomed by another group.

Four: Seasonal? Maybe. I only brought this up because the trend of low participation continued after the holiday season. It may rebound naturally. I think making the two changes above may be positive even if participation does not increase by much.

Five: One more idea has been offered: add an element of c & c to the thread. This would alter the substance of this contest. I would suggest adding just a spoonful: allow c & c only for members who ask for it in their entry post. This could open the thread to increased moderator activity.

I am enjoying the thoughts so far. Any changes would be opened to a membership vote. I don't have the last word about any of this.

I decided to type something witty.

Now I have done so :)

Thank you, Dean. The lens is the 300/f4 PF with 1.4 TC.

A very strong image. Very well captured and then expertly converted to black and white. The placement of the subject off to the side works very well as her size in the frame along with the sharp focus and dark tones draws our attention. You have taken a simple sports shot and added considerable drama and weight. So, not bad.
