I am selling my Olympus E-510 with the Zuiko 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 ED lens with lens hood on Ebay for $300 complete with two spare batteries and charger and cables with instruction booklet. Is this too much for used equipment that's in good shape? Someone offered me $200 and I turned it down. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on this.

The 70-300mm in good condition are around $200 (Adorama, Keh). I haven't seen a price on the E510 without kit lens. B&H has one in 8+ condition with the two kit lenses for $249.

You might get better than $200 for the pair, but I think you'll need to go significantly lower than the used prices from places like KEH. They offer warranties, after all, and easy returns, which is difficult for a private seller. As a regular shopper of four thirds gear, I always find the manual/cables/charger/battery extras to carry a slight negative value because I already have too much older stuff kicking around. Someone new to four thirds would need that stuff, of course. But I'd sell those items separately, perhaps with a discount if bought as a pair. Wishing yood luck with your sale!

I don't have specific knowledge of your local market (I'm in Australia), but $300 seems high. I know that Oly prices here collapsed when Olympus pulled out of the DSLR market. I'm trying to shift an E-30 and some lenses I don't use, and am getting very little interest.

$300 is reasonable, especially if there are two extra batteries included. I definitely wouldn't take less than $250.

Not necessarily high, but probably only another user would give $300. Somebody looking to resell will offer a lowball number, then probably sell them separately.

Good luck!

Rick

Put on eBay with a starting bid of $199.

My guess you will get $200-300 range.

I might be the one to bid at $200 for that lens!

Still debating...

Sorry - in my original reading of your post I somehow glossed over the fact the lens was a 70-300.

Clearly worth the asking price, but it's a fairly limited market for older Oly DSLRs now.

It's Contrast focus enable ready with the latest firmware.

Thanks for the info, drj3

Thanks, Stew

Hi Mario. I sold my E-30 on Amazon for $325.

Thanks, Kurt. I know that $300 would be too much for just the camera but with the lens and batteries I thought it was a pretty good deal.

Perhaps I should have sold them separately, Rick. I just thought that maybe it would be more appealing for people to get a package deal.

I had a $200 bid from Ebay and turned it down. I thought that the camera and lens were each worth $150, but who knows. The good thing is, I'm not in a hurry to sell. Just wanted a little cash to help save up for the new $300mm lens for my E-M1.

It sold on EBay yesterday for the $300 so I guess the price was a viable offer. Just thought I would update in case any of the rest of you are selling gear.

$300 is a very fair price.

For me, I just bought the 70-300mm all the way from Japan. $199 including shipping.

I am in the moment testing to see if this lens is good or not. My first impression wasn't favorable.

My Sigma 70-200 f2.8 seems to be much more superior in IQ.

But then, can't really compare a lens that cost more than twice as much.

The good news is that once the firmware is updated to 1.4, it works very well with Panny GX7.

It's a decent lens for the price and not too heavy to lug around. I eventually found myself favoring the 50-200mm ED because it seemed to provide better image quality but it also cost twice as much and weighed a lot more. I think that you will get good use out of your lens.
