In your own opinion, what is the best 50mm for the M240 and why?

I'd get my $ back then or send it in for a new one. Funny though I'd never heard of this issue.

Jared, I can't believe you said this...I actually won a bid on eBay...I feel it may be too good to be true (probably is)...a brand new (pics of warranty, box, everything) APO for 4700. I paid....we will see..

Wow...thanks...any way you know the affected range?

My understanding is that nobody knows the specific serial number range, but anything made after March 1, 2014 was made after the fix for the veiling flare was implemented. The plane, gray box that is outside the decorated Leica box should have a sticker on it listing the manufacturing date. Failing that, you can call Leica with the serial number to check whether it is safe or not. Note that not every lens made prior to 3/2014 had the flare issue, so even if you have an earlier lens you don't necessarily have a problem--just test the lens to see. A backlight subject shot with the lens fully stopped down should tell you. Also, keep in mind that ANY lens can flare under certain circumstances (including the 50 APO), so don't stress too much if you get the occasional bad frame. It should be rare.

Thank you!!

as it turns out my ebay purchase was a scam!!! I have a fraud case opened up now...it was too good to be true. !!!

Paypal immediately refunded my money. I can't believe it. I have been on ebay for 10-15 years, never once had this happen. Oh well. In the end, I am ordering the APO retail from my local awesome Leica guy.

I am sure you will love the 50 APO. I do Color, bokeh, detail, still the lens is not pressing its character on the image.

I think it is near medium format rendering.

as long is its just opinion the one I have is the best because its the one on the camera and its no slouch either, the f 1.5 nokton and I love it

So sorry the E-Bay offer didn't pan out, but glad PayPal refunded you your purchase. You'll be happy she you get the lens from your local dealer. It's wonderful.

FWIW, I had the Nocton f/1.5 and it was sufficiently sharp, but as hard as I tried I couldn't feel the love for the focusing ring and ultimately sold the lens. It just never felt right to me. Great looking piece of glass though and a very attractive price.

Thank you...so far I haven't ran it through it's paces...I have been shooting it while on holiday with poor light next to the 35 so on the small LCD they don't look much different so I will have to check them out on the screen/print.
