Rant: Why do preview videos of a camera that you haven't even touched yet?

A discussion implies 2 way communication.

I say something - you say something back and we continue from there.

I doubt you will see any of the youtube "stars" here in a discussion because they cannot monetize discussions on here while they can monetize their videos on youtube.

I don't mind when someone posts something of interest or educates people by doing a demo of techniques or reports on a current event on a show floor or reviews of gear they actually have on hand - I will be more than happy to clink of their video and help them monetize their videos but when a video is just a spec rehash in their home studio ... that's just no better than what KR does on his site.
In a prior thread which I am too lazy to go find, there was a vociferous discussion on the "too little too late" video from Snapchick. She participated rather nicely in that thread. I will leave the determination to you as to her bona fides as a youtube "star".

I think you may a little too late ...

I do remember that and I suspect that will mostly likely be her last post here.

She would have quickly realized that there is no money to be made by replying here. Better to put out another video where someone will post the link here and everyone can go and click on it and make some money for her.

Am I out crusading to censor people? That was not my intention.

I just hope that people stop promoting videos that don't add any real value and start promoting videos that do.

Here is one - the camerastore - these guys always have the gear on hand they are talking about.

Plus in this video they give some tips that I think people who make video should follow.

YouTube is a medium that is inherently two-way because there is what they call a comments section and most good Youtubers participate in that discussion to varying degrees. Especially when someone like Snapchick or the Northrups make a controversial video, the comments section (which is basically a forum dedicated to that video) will blow up. Of course, this being the internet and like virtually all discussion forums, people get offended, angry, shocked, revolted or defensive of their chosen religion.. I mean product, or just want to attack other people and their religions...I mean products. Sometimes it seems like it's all about people with egos trying to take other people with egos down a peg. Especially because they operate in a much broader environment, Youtubers generally will also be subjected to insults, harassment, etc. in the course of their interactions. Additionally, some even have their own forums, Facebook groups, etc. for further 2-way interaction. But it all really comes down to the right to speak on a subject and whether the right is based upon the medium. I for one am not going want to shut someone's speech down unless they are lying or otherwise being deceptive or harmful. Bottom line is that if something is newsworthy, then something is newsworthy and it's ok for people to talk about it.

Some of the intuitive leaps being made here based on a camera that they have never held are astonishing in their lack of logic and connection to reality, to an extent that I never see from any of the mainstream YouTube personalities (although there are a few Youtubers who use that as a rant medium as well and make pretty stunning leaps of logic themselves). Nevertheless, I am not out crusading to shut them up either.

As a post-script, I actually like hearing something from someone where I can actually see them talking. Things like sarcasm and subtext come through much more clearly. If all internet discussions were like that, maybe the inherent dysfunctions resulting from anonymous text-only communications could be ameliorated.

Mine is simply to point out that people have differing opinions and I don't understand why some people can't accept that. When I first heard about the Snapchick video, for example, I thought the same as you, even though I had not seen it. Figured I'd watch it for a laugh and was rather surprised that there was actually a bit or two in there that was worthwhile. As worthwhile as the ones I saw "hands on" from CES with the Nikon folks? Maybe not.

Those videos are someone's opinion, and just like you have yours, while I may not like them I sure don't denigrate them.

Do I think that many of these people are rather self-aggrandizing? Yes, I do, but that is a consequence of the internet and social media. EVERYONE has a platform to spew out whatever they want. Much of which, in my not at all humble opinion, is just drivel.

value is relative. some people prefer to dig for their info, some like to sponge it, others filter it. personally, i don't value Youtube as a two way medium, as IMO it's more of a kludge.
