YouTube is a medium that is inherently two-way because there is what they call a comments section and most good Youtubers participate in that discussion to varying degrees. Especially when someone like Snapchick or the Northrups make a controversial video, the comments section (which is basically a forum dedicated to that video) will blow up. Of course, this being the internet and like virtually all discussion forums, people get offended, angry, shocked, revolted or defensive of their chosen religion.. I mean product, or just want to attack other people and their religions...I mean products. Sometimes it seems like it's all about people with egos trying to take other people with egos down a peg. Especially because they operate in a much broader environment, Youtubers generally will also be subjected to insults, harassment, etc. in the course of their interactions. Additionally, some even have their own forums, Facebook groups, etc. for further 2-way interaction. But it all really comes down to the right to speak on a subject and whether the right is based upon the medium. I for one am not going want to shut someone's speech down unless they are lying or otherwise being deceptive or harmful. Bottom line is that if something is newsworthy, then something is newsworthy and it's ok for people to talk about it.
Some of the intuitive leaps being made here based on a camera that they have never held are astonishing in their lack of logic and connection to reality, to an extent that I never see from any of the mainstream YouTube personalities (although there are a few Youtubers who use that as a rant medium as well and make pretty stunning leaps of logic themselves). Nevertheless, I am not out crusading to shut them up either.
As a post-script, I actually like hearing something from someone where I can actually see them talking. Things like sarcasm and subtext come through much more clearly. If all internet discussions were like that, maybe the inherent dysfunctions resulting from anonymous text-only communications could be ameliorated.
