I just bought the new MM2 for my iMac as the old one's laser beam stop working.

After opening the box at home, I read the instructions and it says it needs OS X 11.0. My iMac has OS X 10.10.5.

I proceeded to install it but no success so far. It seems this new mouse really needs the latest OSX. I figured that since the mouse is exactly the same with the exception of the rechargeable battery it would work just fine.

The "genius" at the MacStore never warned me about this. Neither I want to upgrade to El Capitan as I always keep one OS behind. This way, I have avoided numerous problems with printers scanners and third party software.

Thoughts?

TIA

Eduardo

Well, there's at least one big mousy problem you haven't avoided.

Upgrade to El Capitan. There isn't much of anything in there that will break your stuff; it's not a major upgrade. Besides, you are just delaying the inevitable. If your scanning drivers, etc, are old then a new system will break them eventually. Ditto with most software, and besides, most software that works with Yosemite works with El Capitan. If not, it won't work with 10.12 either.

Thoughts?
Not sure what to say. If it doesn't fit it doesn't fit :)

I have to agree with you, making a mouse that obsoletes all previous operating systems seems odd.

"Sick cultures show a complex of symptoms such as you have named...but a dying culture invariable exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners is more significant than a riot."
This symptom is especially serious in that an individual displaying it never thinks of it as a sign of ill health but as proof of his/her strength. ...Friday, it is too late to save this culture--this worldwide culture... Therefore we must now prepare the monasteries for the coming Dark Age. Electronic records are too fragile..."

I think it has to do with using bluetooth 4 instead of bluetooth 2. It would have been nice of them to at least issue a patch to the previous version of OS X, especially since you can't buy the old mouse any more.

I will have to upgrade to El Capitan. Heard numerous complains
Show me one product that has never triggered someone to complain about some aspect of it.

So you read a hundred people moan about something on the internet. How many of those have done something wrong? How many of them haven't looked for a fix for their problem? How many are making it all up because they like trolling?

Compare that to how many just use the latest version and don't have any issue?

Lesson: Take what you read on the internet with a pinch of salt.

I think this is abusive from Apple.

1. Product said it wouldn't work with your operating system. You bought it anyway. How is that Apple's fault? I'm confident that there are a lot of original MMs around, if you really want one;

2. You like to stay one OS behind to preserve compatibility. Well, it seems that not all compatability is preserved by remaining one OS behind. As for numerous complaints about El Capitan, I'm skeptical. I'm sure you'd hear from many more people (me included) who have had no problems.

Unlike Microsoft, which aims (or has aimed) to run many old applications and drivers, because that is what businesses require, Apple actively aims to make you upgrade to make life easier for developers, who can be confident that a large % of their users will be on the current release of iOS or OS X. It's a coherent business model.
