Woke up as early as 4am in the morning. Bring nothing but Nikon V1 + Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 to capture this wonderful Hindu festive.

The focus was fast and capturing this photos was a joy with this combo using available tungsten lights :)

Beautiful pictures! Congratulations. I went to India, and I noticed that people there are very friendly and cooperative when it comes to photography. Did you ask to take pictures, or was it allowed and non intrusive?

Love the images, great grain and film look I so love from the N1 line. Does the Sigma Auto Focus?

Any issues?

Mike

Hi Andre,

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I took this picture during a hindu festive in Penang, Malaysia. The festival was held in public and so much so that a lot of photographers was taking pictures and posting on their facebook.

I believe it was allowed and non intrusive, since the festival was held in public space and they did not elude from your camera or even ask u to stop taking his photos.

:)

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the encouragement, frankly I have doubt abt the capability of Nikon V1 in this low lighting shot, surprisingly, Sigma 18-35mm perform quite well to cope with the focus, fast and accurate, with a low chance of miss shot. I would think this is a good walkabout lens for the Nikon 1 series as 18-35mm if about 50-95mm in full frame and open wide f1.8 would be advantage in low light.

Lovely shots, and as everyone else writes, lovely grain, too!

Great set of images depicting life in the East, very good indeed almost like you see in the Nat Geo mag, well done, hopefully you got many more to show.

Thank you for the wonderful post!

This was so enjoyable in many ways!

The subject was unusual and fascinating, and well-done. And your use of a fast non-Nikon lens, shot wide open with a high ISO was of course interesting to those of us who like 'technical' stuff! ( :

It is a fairly big lens, and heavy. You had no problems with that?!
