Technology does not take good photos, people do.

I like the intensity of his gaze. My one critique would be that I feel the text is too close to his face.

Damn, this is really good. I just wish you wouldn't clip the top of the head like that. It doesn't make sense to me in a head and shoulders shot, and it makes the photograph less usable in different media.

It makes it perfectly usable in different media. Has anyone explained to you it is OK to do what he did?

And if it bothers you, I hope this (from a good site) tortures you. :)

I just read 2 different opinions on this thread on cutting off the top of the head. I don't shoot head shots for any media but am curious as to why it is acceptable?

I am not asking this to be contentious but rather as a learning point.

I do like the OP's headshot.

Composition, impact, camera format, composition, impact and composition... there you have it. Those are the golden rules for portrait photography.

Great photo Vinny! I still think all actors headshots should look as if person is approachable and friendly, unless of course they just want a career as gangster thug types. If the guys expression was just a little softer it would be a winner.

All of that, plus it helps to place the subject's eyes on a third.
Exactly! Thats part of the composition trio, thirds golden arc etc. plus eyes should always be above halfway point to look properly balanced I feel.

thx all for taking the time to look! Myself as a Photographer in 2016, I do not feel the need to stick with the basic rules of photography. I am learning everyday and trying to offer something newer and effective... and most of all, i want my photos to stand out from the rest, becasue i want my clients to standout with their headshot. i always clip off the top of the head slightly, i like more of a tighter cropped look than anything. I believe this creates more of a focus and attention to the client, or the person in the photo.
