Northern light

Hi all,

I'm planning to visit Norway and try to capture the northern light.

I currently have a Canon PowerShot G1X Mark II and I wonder if this would be sufficient to capture the light. Also, should I buy a remote shutter control ? I've been reading it is a must but as far as I know the Canon G1X doens't have the option to control exposure beyond 60'' under the star mode. Am I wrong? If I'm wrong, I would appreciate your advice regarding a decent remote control.
