Just throwing this out there to see what recommendations people have. Thinking about a decent Monopod for that combo. I already have a pretty nice tripod, but for those occasions where u need a monopod instead.

I am very partial to the Manfrotto 679B monopod. Supports up to 22 lb, Weighs 1.4 lb, Extends to 61.8"

If the lens has a tripod collar I don't use a head.

A slightly taller, stiffer, and heavier monopod is the Manfrotto 681B. It costs $4 more than the 679B. I'm tall and need all the height I can get, so I keep a 3232 on top. I rarely use the tilt it provides.

I also use a 361 shoulder brace, which adds a 1/2" to the height. :-)

I have a Manfrotto 294 with a Manfrotto 496RC2 head that I use with my D600 and AF-S 200-500 mm Nikkor. Works well and is rated for twice the weight of my combination.

I just use the basic Manfrotto monopod when I shoot my childrens' field sports. Something like the 681B. It isn't light like a CF monopod, but I don't trek very far from the car to the field.
