Ok, I give up. Does anyone know the secrete in putting on that stupid lens cover? I can't figure it out - but then, that is because I am stupid.

Nikon's lens covers for their standard lenses are much easier to manipulate because the press-in panels are better defined, pinch easier and have the same mechanism on each side of the lens cap. These single finger panel designs are almost always guaranteed to flip out of your hand.

The safest thing is to tie it to the camera. The flash cover door is an opportunity. Some put a nice nylon cord through a hole in this cap and that works well with the other end on the lens cap's retainer loop.

I just use dental floss. It doesn't break and you can put the free end into the flash cover well and screw the cap on over it. The thin floss spreads out flat under the screw threads and the cap tightens over the floss without any problem at all.

Now, who has a bead on the cool black floss we need here?

I personnally use a black nylon thread for my lens cap. I bought it at Wal-mart, and it looks good (since it's black). Also, because it's elastic (nylon), when pulled on, it doesn't try to rip off what the thread is attached to (CF door).

If it does break, I think the roll came at 5 foot long for

I use an elastic threaded through the shoulder-strap feeder in the handle-grip.

I actually did fit the strap through the hole...took a bit of doing though. We had to cut the end on an angle, heat the nylon braiding with a match to create a beveled edge and then it would pull through with a tug. The camera strap attached so that it comes up the side of the camera, to the lens and then back out, making a "D" shape. I never dangle the camera by the strap when it's attached to the camera, only when the lens is off and around my neck.

IMPORTANT POINT: It's a neck strap, not a shoulder strap. Don't go nuts trying to make it do that. Save your weekends for your family...

I tried iNova's trick with the dental floss and it works great!! - I did use the mint version instead of the plain white. By the way, I wonder if the non-waxed version would take to a black colored pen?
