auto flash function

simple q i hope...how can i disable flash in auto mode, yet pop it up when desired? using a d600.

On the mode dial one click under the "auto" position is a little "no flash" symbol - that position is auto - no flash.

I'm not with my cam right now, so I cant' try it, but I believe you can, don't see why it wouldn't. Maybe someone else can chime in?
