NY Camera (Germany) - is it any good?

Hi,

I just wanted to know if NY Camera in Germany is any good.

I have already placed and order with them for a 17-40mm and some B+W filters, but that's about a month ago and still dont have any stock. When I email them they are saying that Canon is behind in delivering that lens.

Should I place my order another place (AC-Foto) or is it the same problem all over. And what will be good (not expensive) store in Europe?

About a year ago I got a G2 from them for delivery as a surprise gift in Europe (I'm in the US), and they did a very fine job. I was nervous about the price or the invoice being in the box, or the delivery being delayed, or other snafus like that, but it all worked out --- the package got to its destination when they said it would. They even sent a copy of the receipt to me. Of course the price ended up being somewhat higher than what I would have paid in the US, but I knew that going in. I was dealing with Graham.

So, there is one somewhat stale data point for you... Good luck with your order!

NY Camera is a 5 stars company .
I never experienced anything wrong since I deal with them .
Graham is kind and very helpful .

About the 17-40mm : there's no stock in Europe . A friend of mine ordered one ( prepaid ) here in Belgium 2 months ago .

No way to get it delivered . The dealer wanted to pay him back even if he didn't complaint about the delays . This to tell you how much dealers feel annoyed with Canon's delivery terms ...

I've dealt with NY Camera on a couple of occassions.

Generally I've been happy with their service.

However I had to give up on them for my 16-35 mm zoom. They said they didn't have it in stock but would get it en two weeks. After emailing back and forth for two months I finally gave up and bought it from a store here in Denmark that had it in stock. Of course at a higher price.

I've had a friend get the same treatment on his Nikon D100.

So make sure that they have your items in stock when you order.

I also ordered a 100 mm macro lens that wouldn't focus on receipt. And a ST-E2 that used power even when turned off. Instead of taking them back, Graham wanted me to send them to Canon here in Denmark for repairs. I did that and they fixed them. I'm sure that these where flukes but they're still my experiences...

This lens is so cool that everybody wants it with a 10d

finally I found a shop importing the canon stuff for a bargain directly from Singapore.
Price in Germany (incl. Tax) is 885 EUR.

I shoulc get mine tomorrow, and if anyone is interested in my experiences with this dealer feel free to mail me )

Don't know about NY but I have been in Germany for the last 10 months and dealing with B&H. Just got my 24-70L in seven days. I know that doesn't help with NY but for future reference.

The low prices are probably because of the fact that they do not keep big stock and are really understaffed...

But in case they have your product in stock then theres no problem, but don't order anything they do not have in stock because it will usually take forever with them.

And if there is a problem, call them, don't e-mail, because that way youll get a better and faster response.

Very good company, I shopped from them a lot.

They do tend to presell stuff a lot, though, which is unusual here in europe...so make sure to ask if they have items in stock before ordering next time or you could wait a long time...

I knew AC-Photo and http://www.fotokoch.de . This companies will give you an answer within 24 h. Try it and than make a cancel at NY-Camera. You know I think in EC you can cancel or return with no obligation.

And please ntmf what is your experience with Singapore?
