Anyone know if Canon will release a replacement for the Pro90 IS? Or has the G-series taken its place?

When Pro90 IS was released, Canon also had G1 in its lineup.

There was indeed a subsequent model due to have been released about a year ago but it never eventuated. Canon was confident in replacing the Pro 90 (which took beautiful pictures) with a similarly shaped subsequent model. Even the Canon reps were subtley letting store owners know to expect the new toy which was toted as possessing a chip that would exceed the Pro 90 yet fall slightly short of those in the G5 (due to the floating element that the Image Stabilisers utilise).

Three months ago, it surfaced that Canon was attempting to cram an image-stabiliser into a smaller body which of course lead to people assuming that the G5 might possess this feature from the Pro 90. The G5 came out overnight without much fanfare (and sans Image Stabiliser) and it was evident to all that this was merely Canon's way of juicing the waning technology and body moulds of the older G3 for yet more money and another round of sales prior to releasing their shiny new surprise. We still await it although I think it's safe to say that it will be a conglomeration of both the Pro 90 and the G series cameras.

Shouldn't be much longer now. I, like yourself, opted to hold off on a G5 and see what the real wait is for.

Cheers,
