Yes, I saw the article, but I hope it will be better than AZ651, which provided poor IQ, as ALL reviews agreed :(

For the moment it's not yet advertised on the Kodak site and not a word about specifications, excepting the zoom.

All the best,

Augustin

P.S. I read the aperture from a zoomed in image: 3.1-6.3 (vs. 2.8-6.5 P900)

Wow, the zoom battles are still raging! As one who has a few of their AZ series cams (and very happy with them), if they can keep the IQ and the image stabilization they have with this new model, they will be a success. The AZ651's IQ is good, but not quite up to their other big zooms, but certainly fine as I've printed out to 13x19 on my Canon Pro 100 and they look great. It's a good all around performer and the added RAW is a plus.

Love to get my hands on this new model and head out for some wildlife shooting (with tripod at that incredible length).

A few jpegs from my AZ651

I have a 526 and it is a very decent camera at a great price, no complaints, I tried a 651 but it was as far as I was concerned very poor, the image quality was so bad I thought it was faulty and exchanged it, but the second one was just as bad, when I compared images at exactly the same focal length on the 526 and the 651 there was no comparison, I am interested to see what this 901 will be like, if they use the 16mp sensor from the 526 it may be ok, the 651 used a 20mp sensor and I think that may well have been the problem, the 526 sensor is great, we will see

I always enjoy looking at your shots, Jim. These from the AZ651 are very good. The color is always natural rather than super-saturated as some photographers seem to enjoy. You must have quite a stable of PIXPRO cameras by now. LOL

This should be interesting.

I like the idea of having " astro" in the name of the camera, however, the long end of the zoom is still better on the p900, ( even though it's never in stock in canada).

if you look closely at this camera's pics, you can see zoom range of 19.5-1755mm,

cool for wide angle, but not quite as good for Astro photos... I wonder what the sensor size will end up being.

The p900 doesn't go as wide angle , but zooms in closer at the end. ( I believe 2000mm)

excited to see what canon comes up with finally!

Hmmm... The sensor of ALL superzooms of all brands (I'm NOT considering zooms like 25X or below) has been until now the tiny 1/2.3", thus a bigger one would be out of question, more as the camera seems not very large (smaller than P900); and a still smaller sensor (like the mobile phone 1/2.7") woldn't make worse difference.

Thus for me the sensor size is the last thing I'd wondering about...

All the best,

Augustin

P.S. You can call P900 "galactozoom" if you want :)

In my view, these types of super zooms carve out a niche among certain photographers (i.e. birders, wildlife) but have limited attraction for average, everyday shooters like myself. The reasons are simply the trade-offs in terms of slowness of the lens limiting the camera to either high ISO's and daylight photography. Given the extreme nature of the telephoto end of the zoom, you would be looking at high shutter speeds and/or tripod mounted shooting to provide the stabilization necessary for sharp photographs (at least for most shooters). The 50X zoom I currently have with the AZ525 is more than enough for my shooting but I realize that others with more demanding subject matter might want or need the longer range.

This is full optical zoom at 2000mm. :) apparently I can tweak settings to get more detail but here's a good starter pic!

Very good. I think I saw the Alien station on the moon.

Alien station? I know you can see the Hubble space Station as well as Jupiter and Mars, I just don't know how to optimize the settings. I could really use some help with this.

You're kidding, but here you see an image of ISS and below it Saturn, Jupiter, etc..., thus astrophotography is something usual with P900:

Enjoy!

So after playing around with settings and reading online, I've managed to get 2 pretty cool pics. An awesome detailed shot of the moon and a rough image of Jupiter! We're getting there!

pics attached. Both are at 2000mm

:)

Thank you! It took me 2 weeks to figure out how to get his type of detail! I'm all excited about this camera now! So much potential!

Holy. The Jupiter shot was stunning from a P&S.
