Now that the X-pro 2, with its rumored size (and other) specs is going to be out soon, and the XE2s is probably not going to be much different from the XE2, I figured we post our top 5 wishlist items for the XE3, if and when that becomes available. Mine are:

1. Faster AF

2. EVF the size of X100T (size of XT1 even better but probably unlikely)

3. 4K

4. Better noise capability

5. Flip out screen

What are yours ?

Assuming there is actually an X-E3 coming and if it's coming this year, the decisions as to what it will be are probably already finalized.
1. Faster AF
Actually, I think that Fuji's AF has vastly improved over the original X100T. I don't think you will ever see the virtually instantaneous AF that M43 cameras have.
2. EVF the size of X100T (size of XT1 even better but probably unlikely)
The viewfinders in the X-T1 and X-E2 are identical except for the magnification. The X-T1 is 0.77x and the X-E2 is 0.68x. That's what makes the X-T1 EVF seem so much better The EVF on the X100t is smaller than the one in the X-E2 and X-T1 and only has a magnification of 0.65x. So that would be a step back for X-E2 users.
Personally, I'd be just as happy if Fuji removed the video software for the X-E3.
4. Better noise capability
I come from a lifetime of shooting film, so to me 3200 is high ISO and noise is not an issue at 3200.
5. Flip out screen
I have had a tilting LCD on five of my digital cameras and even though I don't use it all that much, there are some scenarios where it comes in handy. As for articulating screens, the only thing I like about them is I could turn the LCD around and ignore it.
What are yours ?
Except for the possible tilting LCD, I hope Fuji engineers will follow along the path of the X100 series and make the X-E3 body exactly the same as the X-E2. But that would be too much to hope for. There are two changes I would like to see but doubt I ever will.
  1. I would like the lens release button and the focus mode switch to be switched around.
  2. I would like the MF split image focus screen to be like some of my old rangefinders. A translucent gray center square box like we have now and a matching offset translucent yellow box that disappears when the lens is focused. It makes manual focusing fast and easy to accomplish; no need for peaking.

Currently owning an X-E1, faster and better AF is a major requirement to make me upgrade.

As I use the EVF for every shot, larger is always better.

Ditto.

I only use the screen to check shots, and flipping or articulating (other than to turn it round) are not an issue.

I would just like an updated X-E1 with better AF - faster and with more options.

Can you point to a link that shows that the X100t evf is smaller ? I read the opposite and it certainly felt that way when I tried it in the store. I've also owned X100 and X100s and again, their evf felt bigger. In any case, the XE2 Evf is about 20% smaller than i would like.

I have no idea what the size difference is. However, having owned and X100 at the same time as an XE1 and an X100T at the same time as an XE2, the X100's evf certainly feel larger. I can shoot with my glasses on with the X100's. No chance with the XE's. Looking through the XE evf's is like looking down a dark tunnel. Looking through the X00's evf's I have never had that feeling.

My #1 change for the XE3 would be a larger evf. For me, that's the deciding criteria. Without an improvement, the rest is irrelevant as I won't be a buyer.

Fujifilmusa.com. Fuji lists all the specs for each camera. B&H also lists the specs for the X-E2, X-T1, and X-T10 but for some erase not the X100T. But they are on the Fuji site.

I'd like to think X-E3 as smaller version of X-Pro2. The main reason I'm not getting X-Pro2 is size. I think the size of X-E1/2 is perfect, not too big or too small. It's almost the exact the same size as the popular X100/S/T.

Possible X-E3 vs X-Pro2 differentiation:
- Size, obviously.
- Identical EVF spec, but no OVF in X-E3.
- Single SD card slot in X-E3 vs dual in X-Pro2, UHS-II compatible in both cameras.
- No weather sealing (?).
- Built-in flash.
- Tilting instead of fixed screen.

I have just 1 wish list for X-E3: that they don't water down X-Pro2 too much for X-E3. If it means the price has to go up (maybe around the same price as X-T1), I'll still buy it.

Of course we will see that. It is inevitable. M43 is ahead at the moment, but it doesn't have some magic that is inaccessible to everyone else. Fuji will get there.

Would you buy a Fuji if its ISO 200 had the image quality that its ISO 3200 has? No? Then high ISO performance should be an issue.

Decent HD would be a start.

Personally, I'd care more about a touch screen whereby you can move the focus point by touching on the intended spot.
What are yours ?

Realistic predections:

1. Sure, it should have the same autofocus system as the X-Pro2

2. X100T EVF sounds right

3. hahaha

4. Should have the same sensor as the XPRO-2

5. Reasonable, but may not have it.

I think their goals for the X-E3 will be the same guts as the X-Pro2, but keep the price down. Extras such as a flip screen and larger EVF will be reserved for the X-T2 which will sell at a higher price point.

X-E3 will be the budget model so don't hope for too much.

Isn't the dof wider the smaller the sensor? If that is the case, the M4/3 - assuming the same technology is available to both - will ALWAYS be faster.

There will be a point where this might be negligible, but up that point any sensor smaller than APS-C should be able to get things in focus faster as the dof being wider should allow for larger tolerances.

In the first draft of my comment, I referred to Fuji "catching up", but I revised it because, for the reasons you give, Fuji may never catch up. Nevertheless, my revised version may still be ambiguous.

The post I replied to said:

"I don't think you will ever see the virtually instantaneous AF that M43 cameras have."

My intent was that we will see "virtually instantaneous AF" from Fuji.

Sounds very realistic. The E is the "budget version" and "smaller hands version" of the XPro, just as the T10 is to the T1. So the E3 will be a slightly cut-down XPro.

I'm well aware of B&H etc but to this date I have not been able to find a link the talks about the size difference of the EVFs. No worries.
You need to look at the magnification factor. I recall the XE's are very slightly smaller than the X100‘s. Which, to me, shows the futility of looking at specs. To me, as well as countless reviews I've read, the X100 comes across larger, not very slightly larger. There's an immediacy to the view in the X100's that's lacking with the XE's -- where the view is somewhere down that tunnel.

Agree on all points, but needs more MP. The sensor in the XPro2 would be dandy thanks. I really dont get the gig from posters here calling for the removal of the video function. It aint gunna happen, so just jump off that pony. Fuji themselves have made it clear in at least one interview that the poor video function of the first series was embarrassing and that they aimed at improving it. In the current contracting camera market, removal of features is implausible. And for many of us, the X series are just about the perfect travel camera, so I would love 4k on that body
