I have a beautiful set of G lenses which I use on a Contax G2. I would be interested in the experience of MFT, APS-C, FF users who are pleased with their adapted set ups. Thank you.

I started with G28 on a Sony APS-C camera (Nex 5N). It is excellent as a 42mm ish lens.

I have also tried two copies of adaptors. The opinions about these adaptors vary, I guess it is to do with some quality control issues. My Kipon one is quite nice, fotodiox is not good (gritty when I turn the focus ring). The most expensive one is Metabones, I find it too big and heavy (also costly).

G45 and G90 should work very well on FF. (Other wider ones may cause corner smearing etc. unless you get the sensor modified)

I have been using these for some time now and am a satisfied user:

First on the NEX 5N and then on the A6000. I am a satisfied user and also adapt many other lenses. My preferred lenses on the A6000 though are two Voigtänder, the Ultron 35/1.7 and the color Heliar 75/2.5

I agree, I love 28 on APS-C, just be careful how you explain crop factor, as it can confuse the newbies, it remains a 28mm lens, it just has a similar field of view of a 42mm lens on FF.
I'm using a G45/2 on my A7r, it's optics have been transplanted into a Rokkor 55/1.7 body, and is now M mount, I love using this lens, I wish Zeiss would release a new version for Loxia.

I have g 35mm, 45mm, and 90mm and have used them on Sony nex-5/6 (apsc) and A7R/A7 II/A7r II (FF). You can see some of my shots that was posted here (g35 needs stopping down with FF for coner sharpness, 45mm/90mm are great even on A7R II 42MP sensor):

I started with mf adapter and have been happily using Techart ver III adapter. They updated the firmware to match phase detection af system of Sony A7 II/ A7R II which improved the af speed a lot. Initial update has a glitch with mfd af but they resolved it and it works great. You can read it more here and there is a video also showing the af with the initial update:

If I get a G45, Rokkor 55 and m mount adaptor, how difficult is it to put them together? I do not have any tools (apart from some screw drivers....). I assume it is probably too hard for me.

From what I have read only the 45mm, and 90mm work well on a A7 series body's, especially the A7r ones.

But they do work Very well, so that is a good thing.

Been very happy with the 45 and 90 on my A7RII. The adapters I have are not the best--fotodiox (aka fotasy, I believe) manual focus. They work okay, but when used with the 90, the internal reflections have to be dealt with using gaffers tape or flocking paper, to avoid all kinds of weird flare.

But for the money ($170 for the 90+hood+adapter, $300 for the 45 with original box and caps), they can't be beat.

90mm, downtown LA, last night:

It says 'Contax(G) - NEX'. I believe it's a fotodiox/fotasy. Manual focus only, cheapest Contax G to FE adapter you can buy, AFAIK. Works fine with the 45mm, no reflection issues.

I am quite happy with the 90mm f2.8. Lovely colours, proper contrast and excellent sharpness. I am using a Metabones to Sony E adapter that does the job for focusing, although it is slightly cumbersome. I tried several other adapters, but the Metabones was the best.

Although I have the 28, 45 and 90 mm lenses, I use the 45 and 90 the most. The photos below were shot with the 45mm

Hi,

I have 2 very basic adapters, both from SRB in the UK, which seem to me to be pretty good. They are used on my Nex 6 and 7.

I have only a few pre-AI Nikkors, which I use on my film cameras as well.

This ability to use any old glass on these beautiful little cameras -I include all cameras in this- is nothing short of amazing !

Fantastic shots!
Thank you. I love the colour rendition of these lenses. Unfortunately it was already getting dark and the ISO values were getting rather high, but I needed the speed for the handheld shots.

I've been using Contax G lenses via Fotodiox adapters on Sony A7 - had to buy one for each lens as changing lenses on the adpater on the go is troublesome. Focusing is gritty but doable. Lenses are wonderful, with 45/2 and 90/2.8 being excellent, 35/2 very good; 28/2.8 and 21/2.8 have known issues in the corners but used thoughtfully can work. Well worth adapating to Sony full frame. A few shots below.

Thanks a lot! She's a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

A lovely lady indeed.

Cheers!

I really appreciate this statement. A lot of people, including myself sometimes, just try to find a 'perfect' lens, without enough patience and ingenuity to work around the lens imperfections!
All the best,
