What can we expect from a Canonista? You wrote off D2H before
seeing any picture already, so much for objectivity.
What are you talking about? I haven't written off the D2H. Any comments I have made pertain to established, published specs. It's pretty easy to stay objective about that because the specs are the specs. But as for the picture quality, I have neither denigrated, nor glorified (like squash has!!!), the image performance of the D2H. Because, after all, no one has seen any pictures from the D2H.

If you want to get down on someone for lack of objectivity, direct it at squash. It would seem that the comment "What can you expect from a ...(whatever)" applies quite well to him, since he's the one making all these wacky comments about how fanstatical the D2H's image quality/market position/noise performance/dynamic range, etc., are without even knowing what he's talking about.

squash, I think the tide turned in 2001. The D2H looks like it's going to be a fine camera. But it's the year 2003, and at this late date, the D2H isn't very revolutionary. Nor is it likely to violently turn the "brand war" on its head. But it does show that Nikon is still in the game. They just take a bit longer. In the big picture, it's market share erosion abatement for Nikon in the PJ/Sports/Action photography market, particularly for those who longed for something higher than the D1H's 2.7mp 5fps capacity.
The 'squash' person doesn't even use a real name, or give their
email address or a web page ... not someone that I could defend for
what they are saying here!

Nor 'constant aperture', as that only applies to zooms, and Canon's big guns are primes.
KP
They don't have any VR fixed focus telephotos yet.

Sensor r e v o l u t i o n. Can you say that? I knew you could.
Let's see.

Image Stabilization (throughout the lens lineup) - r e v o l u t i o n
Diffractive Optics - r e v o l u t i o n
Ultrasonic Motors (throughout the lens lineup) - r e v o l u t i o n
PerPixel Amplifiers on CMOS - r e v o l u t i o n
Wireless flash system - r e v o l u t i o n
DSLR retail under $1500 - r e v o l u t i o n
"Quality" Full frame DSLR - r e v o l u t i o n
US Patent 6,388,709 ("Canon's Foveon")- r e v o l u t i o n

Yet you seem to think, they've been doing nothing at all for 2+ years since the 1D? They've got their own sensor fab, and you assume they're doing nothing, in sensor R&D? They can test designs (quickly) without ever risking that 3rd party fabs will steal their ideas.

Canon has had some noteworthy innovation in the past. But they've never dominated the DSLR market as a result.

Remarkable, when as the technological leader, Canon never broke into the leading market position.

Now that the technology race has turned violently on its head, Nikon is positioned (as they always have been) to exploit their advantage aggressively and ruthlessly, and Nikon's lead will widen dramatically.

Canon had a shot, but blew it.

Last I heard, Canon leads in the High Megapixel FF DSLR market (Nikon is a no-show there), the PJ DSLR market (Nikon just entering a viable candidate against the 2 year old Canon 1D), and the consumer DSLR market (Nikon D100 is nice, but 10D is nicer, cheaper, and more popular).

I don't know where you get this foolish babble. I didn't hear you talking about technology being "turned violently on its head" when Canon came out with their proprietary CMOS sensors in 3mp, then 6mp, then 11mp. I still haven't seen Nikon produce anything higher than 6mp. And I still haven't seen a single sample image from the D2H. I start to wonder when a manufacturer withholds sample images for so long.

The nikonians are probably just talking less and taking more
pictures! ;-)
Personally I don't care who has the biggest market share, I can't
afford either one anyway!
Or more Canons are duff, so everyone is on that forum complaining and asking why their cameras won't work.

substance, followed by picture, followed by "all you got is that stink'n picture".

So I guess you're commenting on the prior poster and his pic, too?

Actually, Ken, you're the one behaving like an attorney who, having neither the facts nor the law on his side, stands on the table, screams and shouts.

You have to wonder what they're measuring with their rulers, in between all the tests "proving" that 10D can focus. LOL!

I personalyl am a canon user, but i basicly dont give a rats as-s avout who is a canon user and who is a nikon user, the end-product is the same: a picture. I would not change to nikon but still i dont care if somebody else does so.
