New S-Series Strategy?

Good grief! There is more speculation in this forum than on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange!

I'll tell you when we'll know. As soon as the first of us actually SEE one on a shelf somewhere.

My head is spinning from all this...

:)

If you think that's something, go back and take a look at the OLY SLR forum in the week leading up to and following June 24! That's when the new Oly E-1 was announced.

Mike,

I don't know for sure (third hand info). A colleague has a relative who translates Japanese. He says that the blurb says the S5000 is a replacement for the current top of the line prosumer camera (S602z?).

Not very accurate but that's what I was told. (rumour).

Sorry can't be more sure. We'll just have to wait and see...

Which blurb? So many things have been referred to. (Maybe if I followed the thread I would know. Sorry if so.)

Unfortunately though it sounds to me as if the only announcement on
7/29 will be the S5000 and we will have to wait longer to hear
about the rest. Just my opinion though.
Well, even though Fuji may be hesitant to announce cameras well ahead of release, don't you think it makes sense for them to announce these three cameras at the same time? They're similar, and customers should have a choice between them. People not on this forum might jump to the conclusion that this is the only update to the S602 this year and make the wrong choice.

Are you really sure there is an S9000 in the works? I remember seeing the leaked ads for the S5000/7000 on Amazon and now we have the ad with a picture too. Also, I think there were further leaks about the S3000 on a Fuji website - something about a lens adaptor or camera bag?

But, I dont recall seing anything at all about a Fuji S9000. Does it really exist or is it just wishful thinking?

It looks like the

S5000 will be the successor of the S304

S7000 will be the successor of the S602

and the S9000 the successor of the ... S2?

Finally a clean logical series-strategy of Fuji?

Your guess? Any hints?

Hoe about looking it the other way round. With the introduction of the F-700, and no news on the A series. Fuji seems to take a stand to revamp their line ( might be ratinalizing it into 2 sub - family). The F series for Fashion / Hype market, and the S series for more advanced demanding users. The A & M series relagated to niche / family / P&S sector

Despite what with most sales elsewhwre, DC trend are however being lead by Asian Consummers and recent reading is such that the demand is for even larger Zoom but not neccessary more pixel as hot sale of the Panasonic FZ-1 testify. The other hot saler sre ultra miniature DC aka Pentax Optio-S & Casio exFilm. While the traditional crownd demand more quality in the Pic ( more pixel, less noise etc... )

Its probably with these in mind that Fuji are planning their product range. IMHO, Fuji is splitting the S series into more models to fit the need , S5000 & S7000 straddle the S304/S602 sector while the S9000 will be replacement and higher spec than the S602, and ultimately there will be the S3-Pro. Considering that now Fuji had 2 different chip on hand, the SR & HR; it would be most interesting to see how this new model spec to be come 29th. In any case, Its about time.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I will summarize what I have observed. Rumors of the S9000 date back to this years PMA last March. It started with a couple threads in the News Forum by some people who supposedly saw a CD from Fuji at PMA with two new Fuji S602 models. One with a 6/12MP HR chip and one with a 3/6MP SR chip. I believe they were then refered to as the S900 and S905 (???) Slightly afterards, some other early tips indicated that these models would actually be called the S7000 (SR) and S9000 (HR). This news was then followed by a long period of silence until recently. The latest leaks indicated an S3000, S5000, and S7000. In the past couple months, several listings for these cameras have briefly appeared and subsequently disappeared on various vendor internet sites. Specs given were consistently: S5000 (10x zoom, 3/6MP HR) and S7000 (6x zoom, 6/12MP HR.) To the best of my knowledge there has NEVER been any mention or indication of an S9000 outside of these forums.

Personally, I sincerely hope that there is an S602 replacement with an SR chip on the horizon. However, IMO it appears that the S7000 will have the 6/12MP HR chip. In addition to the recent leaks we have seen, if you consider the F700 (3/6MP SR), the S5000 (3/6MP HR), and the S7000 (6/12MP HR), this covers all three of the sCCD IV chips Fuji announced back in January. So maybe this is it and there is no more. Right now I am just hoping that Fuji announces all of these other cameras in addition to the S5000 on 7/29 so we can finally put all of this speculation to rest.

George,

You are definitely a "glass half full" kind of guy and I admire your seemingly unending optimism. I sincerely hope that you get your F700 soon so you can enjoy it and direct your energy towards telling us all about it. I am also an optimist but Fuji has pushed me to my limit this year so I try not to set my expectations to high for them anymore.

As for the announcement, on the plus side, Fuji has historically announced cameras in clumps and with the recent leaks it would appear that several models will be ready shortly. OTOH, the Finepix.com teaser says new S "model" not "models" announced on 7/29. Also, Phil's news item only hints at the S5000 and I am sure Phil knows much more about what is coming than we do. A final point is that the S5000 appears to be a mid teir camera and not an S602 replacement. Given that there is such strong demand for an S602 replacement, if they were planning to also announce the S7000 on 7/29, why would they give the S5000 top billing on their teaser?

Fred

Because, the A205 has also surfaced on Amazon, shipping 8/15 for $200 and can also be found at fujimall.com in some accessory compatibility list (same way S3000/5000/7000 can be found there).

The A205 has not been announced yet.
How about looking it the other way round. With the introduction of
the F-700, and no news on the A series.
Fuji has already introduced the A310. This is the upgrade that has
the 4th Generation Super-CCD in it. Why would you be expecting more
news yet?

Yes, it does seem like Fuji plans to announce one camera. In that case, I think the other two must be further from being released than we think. I don't think Fuji would hold off announcing the other two, if they're only a month or two down the queue. Anyway, we probably won't see the 602 replacement with the SR sensor anytime soon given that Fuji needs all the SR chips they can make to first meet the F700 demands.

Well, if the F700 and S5000 are in our hands soon, we'll have a lot more to talk about on this forum besides mere speculation. :-).

Alas, maybe we will see multiple models from Fuji on 7/29. According to DCResource.com, he will have news on new "cameras" this coming week. A quick look at his "upcoming reviews" link only indicates new stuff on 7/29 so it would seem the plural reference is directed only towards Fuji.
