oops sorry were not where!
I believe this would solve, the noise and speed problems leaving
only an upgraded shutter and true aperture design to be addressed
(depth of field really stinks on non SLR type cameras).
Hi guys,

Just out of interest if you had a chance to ask Sony one question
what would it be? (Nothing rude please!)

Agreed.

This is definitely NOT a thread about what features are to be found in the next camera.
Im sure this thread is really all about what SOny can do to keep or
gain more profibility. Gain or regain their market share.

I would ask Sony...Please send me the next flagship model free of charge. I can't see myself clear to purchase a new camera at this time, but over the years I have spent much money buying many Sony products so you will still be ahead. I will try to take the best pictures I can with it and display the results so that others may be convinced to want to use the same camera. If 2 or 3 people buy a Sony camera on my recommendation and then they influence others to buy Sony cameras you will gain more market share and the revenue lost by giving me a camera will work out better than advertising..

Dear Sony,

When will you ever introduce Carl Zeiss T* lens into your high end digital still cameras? You already use Carl Zeiss T* on your higher end videocams, so you can easily use it too for your higher end digicams such as the 717 and V1...

The carl zeiss name on its own is not good enough. For truly superior flare control and contrast, you need T* lens, surely you want your products to produce images on par with or even rival Contax and other so-called traditional camera cameras, ya?

sale of Sony digital cam is much smaller than their gaming devices, and a high-end 717 is only 1/10 (or even smaller) of their digital cam market. So putting out a DSLR won't do much for their profit. Actually, it would be the otherway around b/c of the R&D money put into it. Also, the price difference b/w a DSLR body and a 717 is only 1/3, so I don't think it's justifiable from the business point of view.

Dear Sony,

Could you please make the fastest camera on planet earth? I'm talking everything: shutter lag, focus, write times, burst shots/second.

No problem on the camera. As a sign of good faith, however, would you please hand over to us the note for your home and car? And could we please also have your firstborn as well as your unborn next nine?

Thank you.

Hmmm.... I think I know the answer, but...

Does Sony have any plans to produce a DSLR-like camera. I say "like" because I know it wouldn't be conventional.

I love the character of Sony products, and their professional level video gear is awesome. I would all over this...

Of course, I have a bazillion other questions, but that woudd be the one.

If they were, I'd be very conservative in the Canon gear I buy because I'd sell it in a heartbeat when the Sony system came out.

Hmmm.... maybe partner with Minolta/Sigma/Semiconductor....

I would ask them for a prosumer digital camera (like the 707/717) with instant shutter response!!!!! And a remote with a longer cord or cordless. I'd also ask for an xsync for flash. But above all - Instant Shutter resonse would make me a happy camper.

yes and no.

each product line brings residual profits in other areas like accessories where profit points are highest. It would be wisest for a manufacturer who has not been known to be any type of leader in any market segment to test the waters with an already produced product. Prime example is Honda with their 'Passport' SUV. It was a rebadged Isuzu Trooper.

If and thats a big if.(total pie in the sky) If Sony was to bring out a dslr it would be best for them to do so with a dslr cam like the Contax N. It keeps the CZ cooperation and Sony spends no money on R&D. Perfect way to test the waters. And, knowing theres very little profitibility in ultra high end products this solution will satisfy some. Most likely very little. Then it will get shelved and it will become one of the 'also rans'

You really have to think about who Sony targeted when they decided to make the 1-gig MS-pro. At its cost factor is someone who just bought a U60 or a P-series cam gonna buy a 1-gig stick? NO! only people with really deep pockets will dig deep for the 1gig. Does anyone here on this site have one??? probably not. and yah i know, cost is still too high right now.

I'm not a regular here on the Sony forum, but I am interested in participating in this thread.

Question:

Will Sony be introducing a fixed-lens 'compact SLR' that will compete with Nikon and Canon's DSLR offerings anytime in the near future.

Logic Behind Quesiton:

I would only ask this question because Sony is the king of compact and I think a compact DSLR would be the next logical step for Sony considering they manufacturer their own sensors and could easily produce a small high-res sensor with an excellant S/N ratio. I think such a product with the professional operation of a high-end DSLR and the size of something like the Nikon 5700 would fit a 'large gap' in the market right now.

Give us something well ahead of the competition. F1.7 lens, 10x zoom, etc. Oh and instead of giving us a 32mb MS strick, put the money in the camera. My drawer is full of these useless sticks.

You are right, that was more like a wish for a genie.

I would like to recall my previous question, please.

Instead, I would like to be the one to ask them why they have to continually build stuff with planned obsolescence. All I'm saying is to take all the features and technology available to your engineering group today (many of which are virtually free software features) and put it into a top of the line camera which blows everyone else's away. No compromises, please.

P.S. Thank you Sony for replying to my previous post so promptly.

It's easy enough to stack filters on the existing cameras (heck you can even use a simple polarizer and 3 stop ND filter) and take shots in the daytime using IR, which any peep-show weirdo who wanted an "X-Ray" camera could do.

But it would be much nicer for real IR photographers to have full control over SS, Aperture, etc. It would help sell the camera to a bunch of serious folks, including quite a few landscape photographers who would not otherwise consider the camera.

Since I bought the V1 based on your review and the happy V1 owners on your forum, the only questions I have is, will they continue to improve on the V Series cameras, or is this just a one shot camera. The other is how are they going to position the F Series and their V Series cameras in the market place?

BTW, Phil, I really want to thank you for leading me to Sony and the V1. I am totally happy with the camera.

Life is just a stage and we all have enough pictures to proof it!

Because you already have the basic DSLR design as early as 5 years ago, and you have many of the crucial pieces of technologies/competencies to make one, what is stopping you from coming out with an interchangeble lens, or DSLR, or E-10/20 type digicam within the next 6 months?
