If you've gotten to the point where color is the determining factor for equipment choice, you're advanced indeed.

Black is best if you're in a situation where your scene reflects light back into the camera: silver equipment may stand out more. But IMO it's almost completely insignificant in practice.

There is a clear case here for Day-Glo Orange. You will always know which one is yours in a crowd and its easy to find at the back of the closet.

For reference, I have a black Benbo and a silver Manfrotto - because the Benbo in the store was black and the Manfrotto was silver......................

Petteri - Mike - William, Thanks for the insight ! I like the Day-Glo idea and besides that might make me think twice about a CAMO color. Could be very hard to find in the closet : )

But this is just another examle of learning things I didn't even know I needed to know - WHAT COLOR STRAP WILL I GET ???

Camera, jock?

Honestly, the color played no part in my choice. My Manfrotto 055 is black because that's the one they had at the store, and my 679 is silver for the same reason.

I'd imagine it would make more of a difference for wildlife, for example -- the metal gleam just might startle an animal where a black one would go unnoticed.

That's easy: your favorite color.

Black it is !

Local camera shop was very helpful did not have Black in the shop but said they order all the time, So Black it is ! Manfrotto Monopod 679B

OK, framer yes I was kidding about the strap : )

But with the wealth of knowledge and experiance here I was really intrested in what people had to say about the color choice of a Monopod.

and William if you must know I was speaking of a CAMERA strap. all my other straps are white ; )

Thanks everyone for the posts !

It can. Bright sunliight bouncing off the tripod, into your picture...

Personally, I wen't black because I thought it looked cooler. :)

Most silver finish tripods have a brushed finish which would tend to reduce reflections. Most black tripods are polished and sunlight will still reflect off the legs to a degree. Which one reflects least? I think there are too many variables to make an accurate assesment. Unless you are doing lots of backlit shots the sun will be behind or to the side which will reduce the likelihood of reflection.

What I am saying is that in most instances the color of the tripod will matter little or not at all. I'm glad you went with the color you preferred most because that makes more of a difference than the possibility of sunlight reflecting of the tripod. Guaranteed, the color will not affect the skill of the photographer.
