hi

I just got my self a new powershot g5, this is my first time to have a canon digital camera, I enjoy its lots of functionalities, sadly once the LCD become very dark i can hardly see anything on it, but there is very little shaddow like view on the LCD. I have no idea if any option that couse this. please advise if you have any idea.

Thank you,

Hi,

Assuming your camera is still powered on and in shooting mode, have you tried pushing the "Display" button next to the LCD? Perhaps the screen has gone into powersaver mode?

Pushing the "Display" button in shooting mode will cycle the LCD through OFF, DISPLAY, and DISPLAY with information.

Hope this helps.

Sean,

I know that DISPLAY button, I have tried it, it has 3 mode actually (displaying info, lcd power saving and removing other information from the screen ) actually its on unfortunately the light is very dim, i can perfectly see while connected with the tv out on the tv, but the LCD remains dim.

If you go to the menu you can adjust the lcd screen brightness. But at default it should not be dim. The brighter setting should only be needed under more demanding circumstances but not for normal use. I'm afraid you have encountered a manufacturing defect. It happened to my lcd screen also on my G3 and I exchanged it for a G5. I hope this is not a reoccuring problem for other users and that ours are isolated incidents.

If I remember correctly, being at work without my G5... there is a LCD brightness level setting under the MENU options. I've only just got the camera and am still learning where everything is myself.
That LCD really is awful dark under bright sun with the dim setting.

Found out - the hard way - that you don't get to adjust the white balance after accidentally putting it in SEPIA mode > > at the aquarium where everything should have been very blue. ;> )

--You may have yourself a defective camera. I tried out the G-5 and wasn't happy with it so I sent it back and got the G-3 but the thing I noticed about the G-5 that I liked very much was how good the LCD was in bright sunlight. It was the best of all the digicams I have used. So if you can return it and get another.

so do you recommend me to change it with a G3? its a bit cheaper and also I guess the shope that i bought from might not have any more G5. isnt there a single advange of G5 over G3 except the additional megapixel?

--I didn't mean you should get the 3 over the 5 if the 5 makes you happy go for it I just happen to like the 3 better. I would think if there is a problem with your 5 and the shop you bought it from doesn't have a replacement they should refund your money or have them order you a replacement. Good luck

-Please check to see if the camera is in the Manual mode; if it is,it will reflect the designated fstop on the LCD. Try switching to another mode.
