Just got a Panasonic G7 and all is great except I like to have the screen open but use the viewfinder, and my nose sends the AF point all over. Is there a way to lock my nose out of the deal? I'd like to keep it, but if it's a choice between it and the camera, it would be tough. Thx

Just set Direct Focus to Off.

Third line from top (wrench with C) page 3.

Go to Touch Settings, pg8 in the Cutom settings. Under Touch AF select off.

I have the same issue, as do many others.

I've lately found I can jut get my right thumb on the screen and use my thumb to pick the focus location. I've just to turn my face a bit more to the side to pull this off, but the Touch AF is so good so I'm ok with it. I am a "left eyed shooter" so I end with my right eye turned more to the right, and my nose and chin slight tucked back. Not saying its ideal but it works.

An "eye cup extension" would probably work well here, just enough space to keep the noise of the LCD screen. I don't know if one exists for the G/5/6/7 series.

Yes I have tried this on the GX7 with tilt lcd. If anyone is interested in trying it for themself. It is possible with the right shaped nose, suitably blown, to actually use it to move the focus point with left eye to evf without moving hand from right grip or moving left hand from supporting the lens.

Bravo! for innovation. Now we know that we can use eleven "digits" in the process of camera control.

This alone, will triple your battery time:

#1. Turn the screen around, with the screen in, and plastic out.

#2. Turn on the evf eye sensor.

When you want to use the screen, swing it out to the left and use it to move the focus point around the screen.

I experienced the problem with my GX7. Leighton - thank you for your tip - it worked on the GX7.

Touch functions of Panny camera making it be outstanding from its competitors for the easy, convenience and direct control instead of slow key navigation or menu digging. But the well embraced Touch Pad on EM10-II by Oly users, similar feature has indeed been complained by Panny users.

As there is actually a shortcut key to immediately return the focus point back to the center, I just wonder why there are still complaints within very short period of time and very often users even taking extreme steps to disable the entire set of Touch LCD functions reducing their camera back to very basic models.

For GX7, "Disp" is the short cut key. For some older models, it is the "Del" key. G7 must has similar shortcut key.

Yes, it might be annoying since before Touch PAD/AF, the focus point won't move away by accident. But just hitting a single key to do the job does not consume time and easy to do. In fact doing so could retain all the Touch LCD functions alive.

I have a habit of touching the LCD anywhere and hit "Disp" key when putting up the camera (making sure focus point at center) to shoot. My nose, my thumb or even button on my shirt, my big belly would never affect me.

I'll grant that one can perhaps use a shortcut key to return to the center focus point. But, I don't always use the center focus point. So if I'm focusing on a point off center and my nose repositions the focus point inadvertently, I can short cut back to the center.......and start all over.

I submit, that if you have a nose focus issue, you will finally give up and sell the camera, as I did. For some it is just a poor fit.

I had the same question a couple of months ago and got lots of great answers that eventually solved my nose problem. Follow this link:

I purposely use my nose to select focus points. Frees up my hands to access the dials and the many many fn. buttons of the G7.
