Hi...I just got a Nikon D5500 to replace my D3200. I notice that when I view the images in Aperture the "show focus points" command doesn't work. Pictures from the D3200 work fine. Does anyone else have the D5500 and use Aperture? Could you check this? Any suggestions why this would be not working?

In order for this to work, your camera needs to save the autofocus metadata to EXIF (which the D5500 does), and of course, it has to be compatible with the Aperture version you are using (Your version, I think is...Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.03). You might try updating to version 6.06...which added D7200 support. Also, make sure you are importing the D5500 files with Aperture. Anything that alters the EXIF when moving the files to the computer could be causing the problem or Aperture may simply no longer support the function with the way the D55500 writes the EXIF data for the Focus point field.

Really puzzling. I've largely stopped using Aperture and moved to Lightroom CC but checked if focus points could be seen with some shots I took a couple of weeks ago on my D7100. The focus points show on these pictures so I tried downloading some D5500 samples from DPReview and elsewhere but no joy with showing them - which must be darned annoying.

It could be some of the exif is stripped off with these samples but unlikely with all of them as they came from different sources.

So I would guess Mako is right and, for some reason, Apple have stopped FULLY supporting new models - another reason why I moved to a different piece of software. Probably everything they now do is centred around the new Photos App, which is ok for snapshots but (for me at least) garbage compared to Aperture.

Maybe have a look at this site and post a query in their forums.

Sorry couldn't be more help.

Regards,

John

John, thank you for checking your D7100 shots. I wonder if it's also a problem with the newer D7200? I know I'll have to move on from Aperture eventually but I really like it so I was hanging on a bit longer. I'm not a fan of having to pay a monthly fee for software so I'm probably going to try to work with Photos and some of the Macphun apps that have extensions that will work within that app.
